AUTOMATIC eta-Am WEIGHER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE M. BAIRD, a citizen of United States, residing at Wichita, county of Sedgwick, and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Automatic Grain lVeighers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to a grain weigher.
The object of my invention is to provide an automatic weighing mechanism that will weigh a continuous flow of grain from the threshing machine. r
Another object of my invention is to provide simple means for door adjustment and reinforcement for the door. g Q
A further object of my invention is to provide a weigher that the mechanical actions are very sensitive and positiv in movement. I I
Referring to the drawings, Fig. 1 is a side elevation of weigher showing how .it is attached to the elevator and spout. Fig. 2 is a front view, parts broken away forconvenienc of illustration. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary detail of the baffle plate. Fig. 4 is .an enlarged detail view of door reinforcing means.

connecting to said leg, and adaptedto discharge into the weigher said spout being funnelled as at 3, so as to throw the grain & 'within the opening of th weighing hopper.
The weigher is composed of four walls 4,
having ajbevelled top as at 5, and extend ing inward forming a stop at 6, functioning as a stop for deflector valve 7, said deflector valve being riveted or welded to stop arms 9, said arms-having a triangular loop end, for convenience ofengaging in the notched ends of pawls 10 and th opposite ends of said rods being rigidly attached to a cross shaft 11, by looping around said shaft, and having a pin 12 to cause said. shaft to revolve in its oscillating motion, said shaft 11 is trunnioned in bearings 13, said bearings having a frame 14, which is rigidly attached to side walls of weigher by means of rivets 15.- On both ends of said rod 11 is securely fastened a segmental member D, to which are attached rods 16 and 16, said shafts Application filed June 26, 1923. on both sides of the weighinghopper and extending downward and pivotedly mounted at 16, to door 17, said doors being hingedly attached to weighing hopper 4, at 18.
The said hopper being in two compartments, being divided by a partition 19, securely riveted to side walls and extending from the rod 11 downward, and terminating intoa- V shape as shown at 20, so that when doors 17 are closed as shown at 17, the partition will engage with the bottom of the door as shown by dotted lines 21 in Fig. 4,.by which means, when the door is closed as at 17, the grain remains in the hopper. until'in the weighers descent, the door willopen, causing the grain to discharge into a receptacle not shown and the cause of this mechanical movement will be more fully described hereinafter.
The doors 17 and 17 are constructed of a sheet ofmetal with the ends turned upward,
forming a flange as at B, and both sides being open with one edge hingedly attached to weigher as heretofore described, with bottom member 22 fitting closely against the bottom edge of the hopper wall, and when closed the opposite of said door engages with the Vor bevelled member 20, as shown at 21, and the sides B lapping on the outside of the hopper'walls. The bottom 22 of said door is looped around a wire 23, providing a slant to said bottom as shown at C, tendency of which is to shoot the grain slightly forward and also as means for reinforcing the edge of said bottom in conjunction with the L-shaped member 24, by which means the weight of the grain is not sufiicient to spring along the edge of the door.
The weighing hopper is hung to the scale beam by means of a strap 25, which is riveted securely to the hopper on both sides, the said strap 25 having an opening 26, adapted to engage over a scale blade 27, functioning as apivot bearing, .and in close proximity is a corresponding bearing as follows: To the scale beam 28 1S r veted a member 29,
extending downward and engaging the pivot points as heretofore'described, and in said member 29 is an eye 30, engaging on a pivot blade 31, said blade being rigidly attached to the side of the lead, and the action of the scale beam and the hopper fulcrum on said blade 31, on the weight blade is placed a weight for graduating purpose, said weight is not shown on the beam, but is used to graduateithe resistancereqriired to V weigh a Certain quantity of the grain in equal measures in either one of the weigh-' mg hopper coinpartinents'ofthe-saidhoppartition 19 as heretofore described;

In an automatic grain weigher, an elevator, a head, a scale beam pivotedly mounted on said head, a grain receptacle pivotedly depending from said beam, a bail hingedly attached to said elevator and also attached to said weighing hopper, a pair of doors, hingedly attached to bot-tom of said weighing hopper, said doors having a bevel on one edge and an L shape 011 the opposite side, and wire interposed between said shapes as reinforcing means, a shaft passing through said Weighing hopper, functioning asatrunnion, segmental member attached to ends of said shaft, rods pivotcdly mounted to said segmental member and to said doors, so that by oscillation the said doors move in opposite directions alternately and the said rods having a. bend as length adjusting means, a deflector valve firmly attached to said trunnion shaft, said valve having a stop member and said valve adapted to engage with the bevel top of weighing hopper as at 6, a pair of pawls, pii'otedly mounted and said pawls in close proximity adapted to engage said stop in its alternating movement, said movement created by the downward movement of said weighing hopper, when said Weighing hopper receives the proper weight for disengaging said stop, all for the purpose set forth and described.
