Description
UNITED STATES PATENT Orr'IoEo JOSIAH J. DEAL AND SAMUEL HOBBS, OF WILMOT, OHIO.
' IMPROVEMENT IN PLOW-CLEAREARS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 154,323, dated August 25, 1874; applicationlled September 5, 1873.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, J OSIAII J. DEAL and SAMUEL HOBBS, of Wilmot, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented an Improved Plow-Clearer; and we do` hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specificationl Figure 1 being atop view of a plow, provided with our improved plow-clearer; Fig. 2, a side view of the same.
Like letters designate corresponding parts in both figures.
The nature of our invention consists in a plow-clearer, constructed as herein described, which when at rest occupies a position under and nearly parallel withthe plow-beam, and which has an obliqueforward and transverse movement under .the beam, over the moldboard, the said movement being produced by means of a connecting-rod extending back to one of the plow-handles, in a convenient position to be drawn 'by the hand of the plowholder, all substantiallyr as herein specified.
In the drawings, let A represent the beam; B, the mold-board; O, theland-sideand standard; and D E, the handles of a plow. The plow-clearer G is a simple steel or iron blade, situated vertically edgewise beneath the plowbeam A, or to the land-side thereof, and bythe side ofthe plow-standard, or just back of the forward edge of the mold-board B. Its rear end is pivoted 'to a horizontally-swinging lever, H, which turns on a pivot, a, beneath the plow-beam. The forward end of the clearer is guided by means of a stationary guide-finger, I, attached to the beam A, substantially as represented, and extending through a longitudinal slot, b, in the clearer G. The movement of the clearer G, resulting from the pivot-connection with the vibratory lever H and the fixed guide I, is forward and transversely, or laterally, beneath the beam A, just over the forward edge of the mold-board, as indicated by heavy dotted lines in Fig. 1 thereby throwing out over the mold-board all accumulations which are continually collect ing and .clogging the plow at that point. This movement of the clearer is to be repeated as often as necessary by the plow-holder. To enablehim to do so conveniently, and without interfering with his holding the plow, a connecting-rod, L, is jointed to the'lever H at the end opposite to the attachment of the clearer thereto, and extends thence backward to the handle D, where it slides in a guide, d. The rear end ot' the connecting-rod terminates in a handle or loop, f, as represented, so that the plow-holder can readily seize and draw upon the rod, or push it forward, as occasion requires, to move the clearer G; or the forward movement of the connecting-rod may be produced by a counter-spring.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the slotted clearer G, having both a sliding and swinging movement, the pivoted vibratory lever H, fixed pivot-guide I, and operating-rod L, in the manner and for the purpose herein specified.
JOSIAH J. DEAL. SAMUEL HOBBS.
