The disadvantage of theseprior conf I structions lies in the fact that when the eecentric is first oiled, on starting, it-takes considerabletime for the oil to absorb through the wiper sponge and reach the eccentric surface. Furthermore, if'the machine is left standing for any time, the'supply of oil in the sponge drys up or the oil works backthrough the .sponge and away from the bearing surface. So also theadditional bore in the side of the strap weakens the strap and unbalances it. I The main object of the present invention is to provide a device which will not only oil the eccentric surface immediately on starting but will also maintain a supply of oil for the bearing at all times.
Another object of this invention is to eliminate the drying up of the oil in the bearing by providing a reservoir or pool of oillocated at the lowermost bearing surface of the eccentric so that the excess oil on the bearing will flow downwardly into the reservoir and assist in maintaining the pool for splashing the bearing.
Another object of this invention is to provide the eccentric strap with an internal reservoir communicating with the eccentric face at a point immediately beneath the eccentric and communicating with an inlet or inletson the exterior face of the strap,

In general, the device includes the usual eccentric mounted on the main driving shaft on, the
eccentric strap for drivingthe needle lever. The lower sectionof the strap isbored, the boreinclining inwardly and downwardly front opposite points on the exterior face of the strap, to a point'located immediately under the central portion of the eccentric.
At this point, the upper wall of this strap is apertured so that the intermediate portion of the bore communicates with the eccentric surface. Each endof the bore communicating with the exterior of the strap isprovided with a valve for the introduction of the oil and for retaining the oil in the bore.
Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawings, the base of the machine 1 is provided with the usual main drive shaft 2 upon which is mounted the pulley 3 and adjacent eccentric 4: surrounded by the eccentric strap comprising the upper strap section5 and the lower strap section 6, the upper strap section being bored as at 7 at the top, to receive the threaded end 8 of the needle lever connection rod 9 held in place by means of the nut 10. As in prior constructions, the upper and lower strap sections are held in assembled position by means of screws 12 and 13 of themachine surrounded by a two-piece threading into bores in lateral flanges 1,4 and 15 on the sections. i f My improved means for oiling the eccentric resides in forming the lower strap sec tion with an oil reservoir located immediately beneath theeccentric.
