' DEMOUNTABLE RIM.
Application filed June 1, 1923. Serial No. 642,735.
To all whom, it may concern: f
Be it `known that BOYD S'rnBELToN, a citi- Zen of the United States of America, re-
siding at Baltimore, in. the county of Fairiielid and State 'of Ohio, has invented new yand' useful Improvements in Demountable Rims, of which` the followingis a specification.
The object of the invention. is to provide a sectional demountable rim in which yielding members are provided to secure the sections in attached position so that the sections maybe readily disconnected after removal of the rim from the wheel.
With this object iny view the invention consists in a construction and combination of parts of which a preferred embodiment is shownl in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention.
Figure 2 isa side elevational view.
Figure 3 is Va transverse sectional view 'onV the line 3--3 of Figure 2.
The invention comprises the complemental rim sections Vl and'2 consisting of continuous annular rings provided with theY peripheral flanges 3 which may be either of the clincher form or, as shown, shaped for the reception of straight-side tires. In-
teriorl'y the section 2y is circumferentially beveled, as indicated .at 4, from its inner surface to its inner edge, while the section l is provided with a. cross sectionall ywedge-shaped portion 5V adapted to fit snugly inv the bevel of the section 2, inclined faces 6 and 7 of the wedge-shaped and beveled portions their widths.
On the ,contacting throughout inner surface of the section 2 at l1.
The spring clips serve to hold thev ring sections in connected relation and they may. be readily disassembled by the insertion of screw-drivers or vother appropriate tools under the heads of the clips, thus retracting the heads from the groove and thereby leaving the sect-ions free to be separated.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new and useful is A demountable rim structure comprising a` pair of continuous annular rings, one` of which is provided at its inner surface and between its edges with an annular and angular groove,
the said ring being beveled from its inner surface-to its inner edge, the other vring havin@` a wedge-shaped portion adaptedV to fit snugly in the bevel of the first mentioned ring, and the second mentioned ring having a plurality of spring clips adapted to be disposed transversely of the irst mentioned ring, said clips having headsy adapted to engage in the annular of the first mentioned ring.
Y Iny testimony whereof he aixes his signature.
