LEWIS VVIIITE, and LnMoNHA'Yns, citizens of the United States," residing at West Frankfort, in the county of Franklin and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fuel Economizers, of which the following is a specification.

trolled conduit between the breather pipe and the intake manifold of an internal combustion engine whereby the vapors from the oil in theengine will be caused to commingle with the gaseous fluid directed through the carbureter, and thereby increase the volatility of the mixture to produce a more perfect combustion, and also to economize the fuel consumption of the engine.
To the attainment of the foregoing and other objects which will present themselves as the nature of the invention is better understood, reference is to be had to the drawings which accompany and which form part of this application.

By this arrangement it will be noted that the plate is permitted a limited a longitudinal movement on the tubular mem her 4, incident to excessive expansion or pressure of the vapor from the oil in the engine. Also by this arrangement it will be noted that the headed member 9 may be moved to bring its shank out of the notch 10 in the portion 5 of the member a so that the said plate 6 may be swung on the bolt 7 to uncover the member 4: and permit ofoil being inserted into the breather pipe.
On one side of the thickened portion 5 of the member 4 there is an air inlet opening 11 normally closed by a valve 12 which is influenced by a-spring 13. On the opposite side of the shoulder 5 there is a second opening. which is threaded and which has screwed therein one end of a conduit or pipe 18. The pipe 13 has its free end connected to a valve casing 14, the passage through the casing being controlled by a plug valve 15. To the handle of the valve there is connected the bifurcated end of a rod 16. The rod passes through the dash and through the instrument board of the automobile propelled by the motor 1. The free end of the rod is headed, as at 17, and the said head may be arranged over a dial or indicator plate 18. I 7
By turning the rod to open the valve it will be apparent that the vapors from the oil in the engine will pass through the pipe 18 into the manifold 2 and mix with the gases delivered therethrough into the engine cylinders. It is to be noted that the valve casing 3 isscrewed through an opening in the manifold 2 at the juncture of the straight and angular branches thereof so that the vaporized fuel from the breather pipe will be caused to mix with the gases passing through the manifold in a manner whereby the said mixture will enter all of the cylinders; The valve 12 is automatically opened to permit air passing through the port 11 and through the tubular member 4 into the breather pipe when excess vacuum is created.

It is believed that the simplicity and advantages of my improvement will be perfectly apparent to those skilled in the art to which such inventions relate, and while we have herein set fortha satisfactory embodiment of our improvement, it is to be understood that such changes therefrom as fairly fall within the scope of the claim may be resorted to when desired.
Having described the invention we claim In a device for the purpose set forth and in combination with an internal combustion engine includingthe intake manifold and the breather pipe therefor, of a means for conducting the vapor from oil in the breather pipe to the intake manifold at the juncture of the straight and angular branches thereof comprising a tubular member having an outer shouldered portion received and frictionally engaging with the breather pipe, a pivoted plate providing a closure for the tubular member, spring means normally influencing the plate toward the tubular member, means for latching the plate on the tubular member, a normally closed spring influenced air inlet pipe for the tubular member, a vapor conducting pipe between the tubular member and the manifold, a valve controlling the passage through said pipe and an operating rod for the valve.
