useful Iinprovenieiits in Gaine Devices, of
t which the following is aspecification.
\ :This invention relates yto `gaine devices and in particular' to a ball rolling or ball projecting `garnein whichtheskill of the player be tallied in points,
A particular object of the invention is to provide a gaine device consisting of a `panel which is eitherllaid upon vthe ground or placed in vertical position and toward which balls or gaine pieces are projected or rolled to enter fthe openings in the panel and thus score points for the player.
A further object of the gaine is to provide a gaine board which will retain the gaine pieces, when said board is used liat upon the ground or disposed in vertical relation thereto.
A still Jfurther object is to provide a gaine device which will be amusing and which can be used in or out et doors and which can be manufactured at small cost with a resulting` benefit to the purchaser.
.Referring to the drawing wherein I have shown a preferred enibodinient of my iiivention Figure 1 is a view' in front elevation oit the gaine device set up in position ior use with a. ball projector;
Figure 2 is a view in side elevation of the device as illustrated in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a section taken on the line 3--3 of Figure 1 and shows the inethod of attachment of the ball retaining cup which ornis a feature of niy invention;
Figure t is a view in perspective of a inodiiied :torin of iny invention which is adapted to be laid on. the ground to receive balls or gaine pieces tossed or rolled towards it; and Y Figure 5 is a section taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. t showing the construction of the device.
Referring to the drawing in detail 5 indicates generally a gaine board which is inade up of any stiff material, nietal being preferable on account ot its resiliency and durability, having a. front face piece 6, and, downwardly bent integral side portions '7 and atop or end portion S. It is to be un- Appl-icaton yiiledlanuary 19, 1925. Serial No. 3,234.
derstood that the device while shown as standingup in Figures 1 and 2 can be laid `upon the ground and4 therefore the side pieces 7 are shaped to give-the face piece or body 6 an inclined position,` so that when said side pieces are resting on the ground the balls inay be rolled up the incline .to drop into any hole7 there being shown three oftliese openings 9, 10 and 11 for illustration, the hole 9 having a value ol say `ten points as shown bythe nuineral tenprinted on the `facepiece adjacent the hole, while the openings 10 and 11 have each a value `of tive as `similarly indicated. j Any nuinber of holes may be provided and have printed adjacent thereto any value.
The sidepieces 7 have pivoted'thereto` as at 12 the supports 13 which are so riveted as to be ri'ictionally held in any o-pen position whereby they will retain the gaine board in angular or vertical position, the position illustrated in Figure 2 being the one used when the `balls are projected toward the saine by a gun or other device.
In order to prevent the balls from escaping when they enter a hole and to also inake the tact lrnown that a point has been scored, I provide behind each opening a cup ineinber 1-1 which, as shown in Figure 3 is hinged at its lower edge as at 15 to a struck out portion 16 of the 'liront piece 6, and at its top is bent slightly outward as at 17 to trictionally engage and snap over a lip 18 which is punched out of the front piece 6.
Thus, when a ball is projected through the opening it strikes the cup 14C and disengages the saine from the lip 18 to allow the cup to drop to the position shown in outline in Figure 3, and retain the ball. The bottoni of the cup may contain a piece of felt or other soft material 19 which will prevent rebound or' the ball, the felt having printed thereon an ornamental picture as at 20. It will be understood that the felt niay be dispensed with and the picture printed in the bottoni of the cup if desired.
In Figures 4 and 5 I have; shown a sirnilar construction of gaine board in which I have omitted the cups 14 and supports 13, the device being adapted for use on the ground and having its face portion 6 inclined and provided with openings 21, the portion 6 having delineated or printed thereon as at 22 the representation of the bottom of a cap, the holes forming what would ordinarily be t-he cap opening, so that the balls are rolled along the ground and up the piece 6 into the holes. The height of the piece 6 from the ground is small enough to prevent the escape of the balls once they enter the openings, as shown in outline in Figure 5. The openings are designated with suitable tally numerals as before described.
It is evident therefore that I have provided an amusing game device at which balls or game, pieces may be rolled or projected to score points for the various players, the most skillful ot which will of course obtain the highest score.
Having described my invention what I claim is l. A game device comprising a board having an inclined face with a plurality of openings therein, game piece receptacles hingedly associated with said face adjacent said openings, and means on said face member for releasably holding said receptacles in position to receive a projected game piece.
2. A game device comprising a panel member adapted to be disposed at an angle when the device is laid on the ground, said panel having openings therein, the borders of said openings being painted to simulate a cap, and numerals on said panel adjacent said openings for representing a score value.
3. A game device comprising a panel having side portions and an end portion, supports pivoted to said side portions whereby the panel may be held in substantially vertical position, the panel having'face openings therein, and cup members on the underside of said panel disposed behind said openings.
4. A game device comprising a panel having openings therein, 'oldable supports disposed at the sides of said panel for holding the same in substantially vertical position, cup members hinged to said panel behind said openings, means for releasably holding the edges of the cup members adjacent the panel whereby the cups will be permitted to swing on their hinges when struck by a projected game piece, a yieldable bottom piece in each ot' said cups and pictures on said bottom pieces.
