FERDINAND R. WOLTER, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.

Application filed June 8,
"certain new and useful Improvements in Mop Pails and Wringers; and I do hereby `declare the following to be a full, clear, and
exact description of the invention, such. as will ena-ble others skilled in the art to which Iit appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates toa mop pail and wringer device therefor. Such devices are now extensively used and usually comprise a` liquid-holding pail or receptacle and a wringer device at the top thereof comprising relatively movable rollers between which the mop is squeezed after being rinsed or "dipped in the pail.
It is an object of this invention to provide such a device having a fixed or local roller ,and a `movable roller movable toward the fixed roller in a downwardlyV inclined direction to more efficiently squeezethe mop.
It is afurther object of the invention to provide a track or cam means for guiding the movable roller toward and from the `fixed roller, which means comprises'adown- `wardly extending portion adjacent the fixed roller.` It` is still another object of the invention to provide mop guiding means or guards which are shaped to conform to the contour of said track or cam means.
`These Aand other objects and advantages "of the invention will be fully set forth in the `following description made in connection with the accompanying drawings iii whichlike reference characters refer to the same parts throughout the Vdifferent views, and inwhich,
Fig. l is a View inside elevation of the device; i i p i `F ig. 2 is a top plan view thereof;
Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken on the line 3--3 of Fig. l, and shown on an enlarged1 scale; and j Fig. i is an end view of one of the rollers partlyin section also shown on an enlarged Y scale.
l Referring to," the drawings, the j device comprises a pail or liquid holding receptacle l, W'hile this pail may be of any desired l shape` the same is illustrated as being substantially rectangular or square in cross section `and is provided at its top edge with a rolled; wire containing bead. This pail has .1922. `serial iro. 566,688. i
a bail 2 secured to and extending along the sides thereof at the bottom, said bail having a forwardly projecting portion 3 adapted to contact with the Hoor or supporting surface for .the pail. The bail 2 is provided with an outwardly bent portion substantially centrally of the -sides ofthe pail l which is spaced slightly from the pail, which portion is adapted to hold foot plates 4 having U-sliaped side portions adapted to hook over the side of the bail and be disposed between the saine of the pail.
Straps 5 are provided at the tops of the sides of the pail and are secured at one end to plates 6 disposed at the outside of and secured to the pail sides, which plates have horizontal portions extending over the sides to which the straps 5 are attached. These straps are formed with loops or eyes at their forward ends forming the bearings for the end journals of the fixed or local rolleiI 7.. The straps 5 extend in a hori-l and the sides' of Azontal rearwardly direction a short distance from the roller 7 andtheii extend upwardly `in a rearwardly inclined direction and are curved to again extend `downwardly to the rear .of the pail and which are secured to the inside thereof. A movable roller 8 has projecting end journalsextending across the top of the straps 5 and small U-'shape-l clips 9 extend under thegstraps having ears projecting upwardly at the sides thereof .apertured to receive the journals of the roller 8. Journals are thus held substantially in contact with the straps 5`which `form tracks therefor. Rigid arms l0 extend across the ends of the journals of the roller 8 and have their upper ends curved to extend over thetraclrs 5 and clips 9, said ends extending` downwardly and "being 'apertured to receive the journals of the roller 8 adjacent the ends of said roller. The Y arms 10 extend along the outside of the pail and are pivoted at their other ends to the outside of the treadle bail 11 which embraces the sides of the pail and extends forwardly thereof where it is provided with a tieadle plate 12. The pail has angle plates 13 secured thereto at the rear corners thereof adjacent its top and said plates are provided adjacent their lower ends with pressed-out conical portions 14 adapted to receive the heads of pivot bolts 16 on which the ends of the bail ll are pivoted and on which they are held by suitable nuts lil applied to said bolts. Coil'ed springs 17 are secured to the plates 13 adjacent the tops thereof and attached at. their' other vends to' the treadle bail 11 adjacent its pivotal points.
A pair of mop guiding members or `gaiards 18 are provided and secured to the inner sides of the pail at the rear and top thereof and are extended forwardly to the front side of the 'pail to wliich'their inturnod ends are bolted. These gua-rds are shaped to conform to the contour ofthe'tracks 5, being spaced ysomewhat below the same. The pail 1 is provided with attaching ears at itssides to which is pivo'ted handle carrying bail 19.
The rollers 7 and 8 are preferably'fornied of pressed'sheetinetal tubing, as shown in Fig. 1, the ends of Vwhich arevcrimped and clamped'to the disks 2O carrying the'project'ing journals Q1.
1n operation, the springs 17 holdi the bail 11 normally elevated, as shownin Fig. 1, and the arms 10 will then be inclined'ifearwardly and' the roller 8 held in position adjacent the rear ofthe pail 'or atlthe side thereof opposite tlieroller 7. lfVhen it is desired to squeeze the mop, the same will be inserted in the top ofthe pailI between the .members 1 8. The foot will then be placed upon' the plate 12`andl treadle bail 11 depressed 'to V',sr-.bstantially the position shown in Vdotted linesA in Fig, 1. 1f desired, -the other foot can be vplaced 'upon one of the foot plates VLfwhe'n the bail is so pressed. Then the bail 11 is pressed downwardlythe arms 10 cause the vroller 8 to move toward the roller Y and to'follow the lcontour vof'l the tracks 5. The rolleris thus firstI` elevated and is then moved' downwardly as it approaches the fixed'roller 7 so that a downward squeezing pressure is 'exerted on the mop. r1`his downward 'squeezing pressure acts very efliciently to squeezethe water and dirt fromvthe mop, and produces a "wedging action of the rollers. r1`he movable roller is not only moved downwardly but is cam'ined forwardly by tracks 5, thus giving a very effective action. y lllhe arms 10 being connected near thefront Vof bail 11,y a great leverage is obtained, giving a heavy pressure on the rollers. When the pressure on the treadle bail 11 is released the parts resume their normal position shown in full lines in Fig. 1. rllhe projecting bail 2 acts to stabilize the pail and prevent overturning of the saine by pressure applied to the bail 11.
From theabove description it is seen that applicant has provided a simple and 'inexpensive mop pail and wringer and 'one which acts very efficiently to'squeeze the mop. The
parts of the devicelare all easily'niade from standard material which can be easily obtained.
1t will, of course, be understood that various changes may be made in the form, details and arrangement vof the parts without departing from the scope of my invention, which, generally stated, consists in the matter shown and described and set forth in the appended claims.
What is claimed is:

3. A mop wiinger device havingl in combination, a pail, a local vroller journaled against the top and front side thereof, a movable roiler normally disposed adjacent the rear and top of said pail, a U-shaped bail'extending around the front of said pail and having its ends p'ivoted at the sides thereof at a point substantially beneath the normal position of said movable roller, links pivoted to each side of said pail andy tothe ends of said movable roller Vforming the sole connection to said movable roller, tracks secured to the top of said pail at each side Eon which said movable rollerfis guided, said tracks extending upwardly from the rear of said pail, then Adownwardly on a line passing inside of and below said local roller and then horizontally-below the center of said local roller.
