IMPROVEMENT IN THILL-COUPLINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 154,142, dated August 18, 1874; application led June 12, 1874.

(Shown more clearly in Fig. 2, and in section, through L N, in Fig. 3.) e, Fig. 2, is a recess cut in the eye of the thill-iron to admit the passage of the lug c when the thill is raised to bring the recess e in coincidence with the lug c. D is a cylinder of elastic material, confined upon the stud d by the flange, lling the eye of the thill-iron. The object of placing the lug c on the rear of the stud is to gain greater security against uncouplin g in case of unusual strain.
The operation of the device is as follows: Raise the thill till the recess e coincides with the lug c, Fig. 2 5 then the thill-iron is easily sprung off. Y
The dotted lines C', Fig. 1, show the thilliron in position, and C shows the sarne sprung off, the whole affording greater cheapness, facility, and security than other devices in use.
I claim as my invention- The combination of the lug c and flanged stud d of the axle-iron B with the recessed eye of the thilliron C, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
