Description

atented June 9, 1925.
UNITED STATES 1,541,184 PATENT OFFICE.
LESSAGE RAYMOND, OF
WOODHAVEN, YORK, ASSIGNOR TO CAMLIN CORSET CO. INC., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
UNDERGARMENT.
Application filed March 5, 1925. Serial No. 13,020.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Lnssncn RAYMOND, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Woodhaven. in the county of Queens and State of New York, haye invented certain new and useful Improvements in Undergarments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to combination undergarments for women. The object of the invention is to provide an undergarment comprising in combination a brassie-re and a corset so arranged that both may be worn together as practically one garment for the support of the body from below the hips and to the bust, and in which case there is a cooperative function between the brassiere and the corset. Or, if desired, either of these garments may be worn separately, or
another garment of similar character may be substituted for one of the combination garments.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a combination garment of modish pleasing appearance adapted to create the modern slender straight outline of figure.
Another object of the invention is to provide a combination garment in which the brassiere portion is readily detachable from the corset portion, and vice versa, for cleaning purposes for instance.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a combination garment in which the brassiere portion is provided with hose supw porting means for better cooperative function with the corset garment and for the support of the hose.
With the foregoing objects in view my invention is embodied in a combination undergarment constructed, arranged and designed as hereinafter set forth, while reference is had to the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a front view of the garment.
Figure 2 is a rear view thereof.
Figure 3 is a front view showing the brassiere portion open and detached from the corset portion.
The combination garment according to the invention consists of an upper and a lower portion formed respectively as a brassiere and a corset.
The brassiere portion comprises a front member 4, a right side member 5, a back 6 and a left side member 7. These several members are shaped to form a brassiere by sewing them together, either along the lines indicated in the drawing or otherwise in accordance with custom or good practise in the industry. Suitable shoulder straps as 8, 8 are provided as usual.
The lower edges of the side members 5 and 7 are provided with or formed ofelastic bands 9, 9 of an elastic fabric having a stretch greatest in the "horizontal direction so as to fit snug in the waist.
The front 4 is provided with a depending flap portion 10 preferably reinforced by a front strengthening piece 11. The brassiere portion is openable along the one edge 12 The corset portion is of the closed one I piece step-in type, open at the top 18 and bottom 19 and comprises front and rear members 20 and 21 of fabric usually used for corsets. These members are joined by side members 22, 22 of elastic fabric.
The corset front 20 is provided with a row of hooks 23 adapted to be hooked into a row of eyes 24 on the brassiere front 4. In addition the corset front has a single eye 25 adapted to be hooked into the single hook 26 at the lowest point of the brassiere flap The corset back 21 carries two loops 27, 27 through which pass the hose supporting straps 17, 17. Other usual hose supporters 28 may be provided. In the drawing the shaded portion indicates elastic fabric, the unshaded portion indicates non-elastic fabric.
The garment is put on by stepping into the corset portion and placing it in proper position around the hips. Thereafter the brassiere portion is slipped on like a vest with the shoulder straps over the shoulders o'f thewearer. The hose supporters 1617 are passed through the loops 27 and the brassi'ere is closed around the body and combined with the corset by hooking the the garment may eyes 24 over the hooks 23 (which point downwardly) and hooking the eye 26 over the hook 25. Thereafter the hooks 13 are hooked into the eyes 14. i
As thus put on and worn it will be noted that the two parts of the combination garment are. properly attached to each other at the front and that the hook and eye connection 252(3 prevents the brassiere from creeping up and becoming displaced.
The brassiere fits easily and comfortably around the body because the lower edges of the brassiere overlap the upper edge of the corset. The elastic bands 9 serve to confine the brassiere to the body at the upper edge of the corset and prevents bunching.
The back ofzthe brassiere is likewise held down by the hose supporters l617 when,
hooked into the hose. In sitting down or bending the flap l5 prevents the corset edge of being turned over to annoy the wearer, and the straps l7, l7 serve to keep the brassiere properly in position in the back. The loops 27, 27 serve to confine the straps 17 to the body and separates said straps to prevent twisting or bunehing.
The supporters l7 and 28"serve to support the hose.
The garment is very simple in construction. It lies close to the bodyto confine and produce the proper outline. Either part of be worn separately as is obvious.
While I have disclosed my invention in its "required, the garment rated. In the case of sewing the two parts preferred form nevertheless I do not Wish Thus I contemplate within the principle and objects of the invention that modifications may be found convenient and desirable. Thus for instance in place of hooks and eyes other lastening nieans may be used. Or the brassiere may be permanently attached to the corset along the lines of members 2 l 23 by seudng, yet by ripping the short seam portions may be sepatogether I may or may not use the front llap l0.
1 claim W As a new article of manufacture, an undergarment of the character described comprising a brassiere garment the front of which is adapted to be opened and closed to put the garment off and on, fastening means for said front, a step-in corset garment, means for securing the said front of the brassiere garment to the corset garment at the front 01" the latter, hose supporters secured to the corset garment at the lower front edge thereof, other hose supporters, elastic straps for securing the latter to the back of the said brassiere garment and a piece of fabric secured to the back of the corset garment and forming loops through which the said elastic straps pass as and for the purpose set forth.
