citizen of the United States, residing ate Reading,ii11 the coun'ty -of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gap-Closure Attachments for Knitting Machines, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates particularly to circularknitting machines employing a latch guard ring having a gap for securing the movable yarn-guide members ordinarily employed as more fully set forth in Robin son Patent No. 1,357,252 of November second, 1920; and it consists of straight bar closuremember with independently controlled means to determinedly project or retract the same across said gap in a plane substantially tangential to said guard ring. The invention is fully described in connection with the accompanying drawing, and the novel features particularly pointed out in the subjoined claims.

The bracket I as shown fixedly carries a guide rod K extended therefrom in parallel relation to said bar H,and the latter is provided with a fixed end collar -L gaging said guide rod K so asto support and insure free axial movement of bar H at all times. What I claim is: Y
1. In a knitting machine the combination with a plurality of pivotally operated thread-guide members and a latch ring having a thread-guide member comprising a straight bar movable the open ring A,; where it will act in well known manner to gap, of a gap closing slidably e11 pivotally carried in across said gap in a plane substantially tangential to said ring, and means for determinedly moving and retracting said bar.
2. In a knitting machine the combination with a plurality of pivotally operated thread-guide members and a latch ring having a thread-guide gap, of a gap closing member comprising a straight bar movable across said gap in a plane substantially tangential to said ring, means to normally retract said bar, and means to determinedly project the same across said gap.
3. In a knitting machine the combination with a plurality of pivotally operated thread-guide members and a latch ring having a thread-guide gap of a gap closing member comprising a straight bar normally projecting outside said ring, and means for determinedly moving the same axially to cross said gap in a plane substantially tangential tosaid rin 4. In a knitting machine the combination With a plurality of pivotally operated thread-guide members and a latch ring having a thread-guide gap, of a gap closing member comprising a straight bar, a bearing therefor outside said ring, a parallel guide rod, a spring on said bar between said collar and bearing, a ring aperture extending to said gap alined with said bearing, and means for determinedly moving said bar axially against said spring tension. to project the same across said gap in a plane substantially tangential to said ring.
