1 N 'PIPE BEAMER.
Application filed Septemeer To all whom t may, concern:
Be it-known that I, HENRY `KrimisHELD,`
' a citizen of the United States, anda resident i simple, compact, durab le `and `,streng pipe `reamer which is adaptedto be collapsed4 of Newark, in the county oli- Essex andv State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Pipe Beamer, of? which the followingV is a t'ull, clear,and exact description. `This invention relates toa new and improved pipe reamer, especially.` adapted vfor tobacco pipes. .i l l v Y An ob'ect of the inventionrsjto providefa pended onakey ring. r5
lnother object concernsthe;.provision of a pipefreamerwhich can besuspeniled on a keyringand atfthe same 'time be quickly and easily extended intosoperativeposition for the purpose oi'reaming out `a pipe, .preferablya tobacco pipe, although other tubular 4articles can be reanied therewith.
A further object concerns the provision when not in use so `that it can readily snsf of means whereby the device'can be made of simple, inexpensive material, preferably sheet metal, and so as to occupy a very small space when not in use. f
The invention is illustrated in the drawings, of which- Figure l is a section through the bowl of` a pipe showing'the reamer in position;
Fig. 2 is a perspective View showing the' reamer in its collapsed closed position;
- Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the reamer showing it in open or operative position;
Fig. 4 is a section taken on the line 4;-4 of FigoQ; and V- Fig. -5 is a section of Fig.` 3. Y
.The form of the invention shown in the drawings is a preferred form, although it is understood that modifications inthe contaken on the line 5-5 struction and arrangement of the parts and Vin the character of the materials used may be adopted without departing from the spirit of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
In its genera-l aspect the invention comi prises two metal plates the edgesro'f which are formed to conform to theproiile of the bowl of. a pipe, preferably Va tobacco pipe;-k
These edges are curved and sharpened 'and act as :cutting edges. `These plates are slotted and are so disposed with respect to each other as to be movable one with respect to the other but are not ordinarily coml with two `wing portions.

each. other, whereas when vnot in operation `they .Kareladapted to be swung relative -toeacli other to lie ilat against each other. Asim- -ple `little `latch is provideduon one of the .plates'to be moved into position to grip both of the `plates and hold them in :their closed position@ These plates are `provided with :slots inorder to permit their being swung flat, against each other without'd'i-sengagement andI are necessarily provided with por# tions offset with respect to each other so that the pivotal place u .Y l g -The particular form of l-the invention swinging `movenient can talle pletely disengageable. vTheir normal posi i tion when `1n `operation 1s ati-ight angles to i which constitutesthe preferred embodiment i thereof-fis.shown in thedrfawings and Vis adapted fto be Vused `to reamaout the bowl la of a pfp,e,..as shownfin Fig The .reamer preferably constitutes thertwo "plat-es A and B. These plates are formed-l of wing ,por-
tion-s 1, 2, 3 and 4 each plate being provided One wing portion of `a plate is offset with respect to the other wing portion, Vthereby providing a sort ofn y shoulder 5, asshown in Fig. 4L. Each plate is provided with this sort of shoulder. The plate A is provided with a slot 6. -The plate B is-provided with Vtwo slots 7 andV 8,v the `slot v7 being closed at both ends butthe slot 8 being openat 4thebottom or lower end -o the plate B. In the manufacture of the devicefthe plate B is cut orjslit between the tWo slots therein and Vseparated far enough to permit the plate' A tojbe slipped into po- Thereafter this slit isp-sealed by separated edges and confine the plate A into permanent plateB. Y
A latch member`9 is mounted on oneolf the plates such as B and adapted when swung downto engage withone of the -wings v of the plate A when said plate is swung into a position flat against plate B. The slot 7 pivotal engagement with thev extends well up into the plate B and its y upper end lies above ashoulder `or enlarged portion 10 torrnedv thereon so that the plate A as' itis swung into operative position is moved up into thez upper end of slot `7` so` that'its upperfface `lies against this portion Vof ythefplate B. This provides a certain amount of rigidity tothe plate. Y Normally,
to place thexparts in their closed' position the plate A is allowedto dropa bit until its upper edge is below the shoulder l0, and then is swungaround flat against the plate B and locked. In this locked positionl it will be seen that the lower edge 11 of the 1 plate A lies below the lower edge of the plate B but that normally when they are in their operative relation, as shown in Fig. 3, their lower edges areat the same level. The upper portion of the plate B may be provided with a key-head or plate l2 adapting the device to be mounted or suspended trom a key ring if desired. y
This device, therefore is adapted for ready suspension on a key ring and can be quickly and easily placed in operative condition for use in reaming the bowl ot a pipe. 'It is to be clearly understood that this reaming device can be used for other things-'besides tobacco pipes and it is not my intention to limit it to this use. Y
What I claim is:- Y l. A pipe reamer, which comprises a pair of pivotally movable plates adapted in one position to be disposed at an angle to each other for reaming purposes `andato be disposed iiat against each other when not in use. 2. A pipe reamer, which comprises a pair 0f pivotally movable plates adapted in one position to bedisposed at an angleto each other for reaming purposes and to be disposed fiat against each otherwhennot in use, and means on one of said plates to engage with the other to lock the plates in their closed position.
3. A pipe reamer, which comprises a. pair of pivotally engageable collapsible plates adapted to be disposed at an angle t0 each other when in use and collapsed against each other when not in use.
4. A pipe reamer, which comprises a pair of plates having slots therein, the slotted port-ions on one plate adapted to pass through the slots in the' other, each plate being offset in line with the slots to permit one plate to be swung Hat against the other.
5. Apipe reamer which comprises a plate having slots therein, shoulders at the upper end of this plate on opposite sides thereof adjacent the upper yend ot one of said slots, a second plate hav-ing a slot embracing the unslotted portion of the irst-mentioned plate, said plates having offset portions in Y line with the slots to permit them to be swung flat against each other, said second plate adapted to be swung at an angle to the first plate and moved into engagement with the shoulders whereby it can be maintained substantially in this angular position Vduring use, said second plate adapted to be dropped down into the slots of the other plate prior to being swung fiat thereagainst.
