Be it known that I, ALBERT KAUFMANN, a citizen of Germany, and residing at 99 Kaisemlamm, Berlin, Germany, have invnted certain new and useful Improvements in Die-Casting Machines, of whicl1 the following is a specification.
This invention relates to die-casting macl1ines anal particularly to machines 0'f tl1is l incl in which the mold is moved by band to the outlet througl1 Wl1ich the metal is ejected from t-l1e crucible. In accordance with one feature of tl1e invention the mold, when rnovecl towarcls the meal ontlet, sfrikes against anarm 0r lever that causes tho clrive 0I" the p'nmp that ejects tl1e mefal m be. automaticnlly put into operation.

The ratchet-sharied clutch members on the, hubs of the levers are arranged sothat when the lever w is turned in the direction of the arrow 12 (Fig. 4) the lever 9, 10 is carried round and swung up in the direction of the a'rrow 12 into the position shown in Fig. 5, in Wl1ieh the knife-shaped end 8 of the arm 9 is out of engagement with the pin 4.

When tl1e mold e is moved towards tl1e metal outlet and thus towards tl1e levcr h after the coupling n, 0 has bten thrown 011 by the depression 0f thepedal t tl1e levers h, z, 70 turn tl1e shaft p which then turns the crank 'v und through the oonnecting rod w d urns the lever m in the direction 0f the arrow 12. Consequently the lever 9, 10 is turned in the direction cf the arrow 12 am]. a coupling pin 4 is jerked by the spring 5 into a recess 14 in the hub of the continuously rotating pulley 2. The pnlley 2 is' thus coupled by the pin 4 t0 the collar 3 und as this collar is fixed 0n the shaft 2 the latter is turned so as to impart a rotary m0- tion to the cum 15 fixed on the shaft z.

The projection 16, in brushing past the arm 17, thus shifts tl1e hub 18 with tl1e lever a: against the action of the spring 11, which results in the coupling between the two levers w and 9, 10 being released. Consequently the spring 13 returns the lever 9, 10 into the poSition shown in Fig. 4. The knife-shaped end 8 of thislever thus again enters the recess in the piri'4 between the rear end of the same and the abutment 6 (see Fig. 6) and the coupling pin 4 is pulled back into its initial position aga.inst the action of the spring 5 so as to release the coupling between the pulley 2 und the driving shaft z.
The mold i is now returned into the initial position shown in Fig. 1 and the casting remo ved from the same. The mold may then be again advanced to tl1e metal outlet t0 give rise to another series 0f operations similar to those already describecl.
Motion is transferred from tl1e cam 15 t0 the pressure piston d by the connecting rods 19 shoWn in Figs. 3 and 8 which are connected t0 a cross beam 20, the latter having a A to the upper cross bar 26. The cross br26 is attached t0 the pressure piston ormetl ejecting piston d. Springs 24 are arianged in the cylinders 23, the lower ends 0f the springs abutting against the bottoms of the cylinders 23 while the upper ends press against the pistons 22. A spring 27 inranged between the frame 0f the macl1inc und the Cross bar 26 tends to keep the piston d in i 'ts up1 ermostposition.

The metal is thus ejected from the crucible into tl1e mold e until the latter is filled. Further downward motion 0f th e rods 19 Will naiv result in the compression of the springs 24, the piston d thus remaining stationary. When the cam 15 l1as almost executed a. complete revolution the downward pull 01T- the rods 19 ceases and the Spring 27 pulls tlfe rods with 'the piston d back int0 tl1eir initial positions in which the springs 24 will obtain perfect oastings.

arm with a knife edge, a spring urging the said ratchet clutch and journalled on said pivot, a second shaft extending parallel to said driving shaft, actuating links for transferring motion from the second shaft to said ratchet sleeve, and a lever in the path of said mold holder for trning said second shaft and thus moving said arm away fro1n said pin{whereby the pin is caused to couple the driving shaft to the driving wheel.

Die-oasting machine, comprising a cru cible with an outlet for molten metal, a mold holder adapted to be moved by band to said outlet means for ejecting ineial from the cruoible through said ontlet a rotary' shaft for operatling said means, a collar fixed on said shaftand having a recess extending parallel to the shafi), a driving wheel loose. on said shaft and having a recess in its hub. a coupling pin slidalole in the recoss of the collar and positioned so as fo he able to move into the recess in said ln1b a fixed abutment, a spring lodged in the pin and pressing against said abntment and the pin so as to urge the latter towards said hnb, a cheek formed in said pin, an arm with a knife edge, a spring nrging ihe arm towards said pin and normally holding it botween said cheek and said abutment against the. action of the pin actnating spring, a pivot for said arm,-a ratchet clutch on said arm. a ratchet sleeve engaging with said ratchet clutch and jonrnalled on said pivot, a second shaft exfending parallel 130 said driving shaft, actuating links for transferring motion from the second shaft to said rafrhet sleeve, a lever in the path of said mold holder for turning said second shaft and thus moving said arm away from said pin, whereby the pin is caused to couple the driving shaft to the driving wheel, a p-rojeotion that rotates With said collar, a cam on said ratchet sleeve in path of said projection for moving the ratchet sleeve oufiof engagoment with ratchet clutch whereby the knife edge of said arm is permitted to be forced by its said spring between said abutment and eheek to remove the co'upling pin from the recess in the hulo of the driving wheel.

Die-casting machine comprising a erucible Witl1 an outlet for molten metal, a mold holder adaptecl to' be moved loy hand to said outlet, a piston for ejeoting the metal through said outlet, a driving shaft, a 001- lar fixed on said shaft ancl having a recess extencling parallel to the shaft, a drivin'g wheel loose on said shaft and liaving a recess in its hub, a coupling' pin slidable in the recess of the collar and positioned so as to be alo1e tomove into the recess in said hob, a fixed abutment, a spring loclged in the pin and pressing against said abtment and the pin so as to urge the latter towards said hub, a cheek formed in said pin, an arm with a knife edge, a spring urging the arm towards said pin and normally holding it between said cheek and said aloutment against the action of tl1e pin actuating spring, a pivot for said arm, a ratchet clutoh on said arm, a ratchet sleeve engaging with said ratchet olutch and journallecl on said pivot, a seoondshaft extending parallel to said driving shaft, aotuating links for transferring motion from the seoond shaft co said rafichet sleeve, a lever in the path of said mold holder for turning said second shaft and thus moving said arm away from said pin, whereloy a pin is caused to couple the driving shaft to the driving wheel, a carn on the driving shaft for operating saidpiston, and means for resforing the piston to its. non-operative position. 7.
