H. O. DAVIDSON JOIST SPACER AND STRINGEB HANGER Filed March 1, 1920 Patented May 26, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
HARRY O. DAVIDSON, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE HYDRAULIC PRESSED STEEL COMPANY, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, A CORPORATION OIE OHIO.
JOIST SPACER AND STRINGER HANGER.-
Application filed March 1, 1920.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY O. DAVIDSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland. in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in a Joist Spacer and Stringer Hanger, of which the following is a full, cler, and exact description, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates generally to concrete forms and more particularly to certain means "for connecting and supporting the wooden supporting or carrying means for said forms.
The object of this invention is to provide a novel stringer and joist support and also a novel form of joist SHPPOIt and spacer, said devices being constructed in such a manner that they can be quickly and easily attached to the wooden members carrying the same and also of such construction that the parts can be quickly and easily connected together or disconnected when desired and a still further object is to provide supporting and spacing means which can be used over and over again without appreciable impairment.
lVith these objects in view, the. invention consists in the novel features of construction combination and arrangement all of which will be fully described hereinafter and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification Fig. 1 is a. perspective view illustrating the combination stringer bracket and joist spacer. And Fig. 2 is a. view of the joist spacer and support for same.
In the practical embodiment of the invention there is employed a sheet metal clevis which in intended to be secured to an upright member 10 of the shoring and this clevis comprises the upper and lower straps or bands 11 and the outwardly pressed con necting portion 12, the bands 11. are bent around and fastened to the uprights 10 while the portion 12 projects outwardly from the face thereof.
In connection with the clevis there is employed a combined stringer bracket and joist spacer, made also of sheet metal and comprising the base portion 13, the angled Serial No. 362,328.
or ofl'set portion 14 and the upper portion 15.
The base portion 13 has an opening 16 cut therein large enough to fit over and receive therein the bowed out part 12, and a wedge 17 inserted in front of the base portion 13 and behind the bowed portion 12 will securely lock the two parts together. The upper end of the. upper portion is bifurcated as shown at 18. The angled offset portion 141 receives and supports thereon a stringer 19, and a joist 20 rests in the bifurcation 18 of the upper end. This is the construction employed upon the uprights, but it is necessary to support and properly space the joists at other points than at the uprights and to do this there are provided stirrups 21 which straddle the stringers and are provided with outwardly bowed portions 21, to which is connected the joist support and spacer 22 having an opening 23 in the lower portion-thereof to receive the bowed portion 21, and a wedge 24 holds the parts together. The upper end of the plate is bifurcated at 25 to receive the joist therein. The stirrups are placed upon the stringers at definite points, and this will determine thepositions of the'joist supports and space said joists accurately and maintain them in such positions. By removing the wedge 24, the support can be removed and the joist dropped and by remov- 'ing the wedge 17 the combined stringer bracket and joist support can be dropped.
It will thus be seen that there is provided a novel combination of supporting elements constructed and arranged in such a. manner as to efficiently carry out all the objects of this invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. The combination with a clevis having an outwardly extending loop, of a support having a base provided with an aperture adapted to fit over said outwardly extending loop, a wedge adapted to be inserted in said loop to secure said support on said clevis said support being bifurcated.
2. The combination with a clevis having a laterally projectingloop, of a support arranged to contact with said clevis and said loop, a Wedge adapted to engagesaid loop to secure said support and clevis tol gether, said support being offset and bifurcated at its upper end.
In te timony whereof, I hereunto aflix my signature;
HARRY O. DAVIDSON
