COVER FOR FOOT SUPPORTS.
Application filed July 22, 1922. Serial No. 576,766.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL S. (303121., a citizen of the. United States, residing at Lincoln, in the county of Lancaster and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Covers for Foot Supports; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in theart to which it appertains to make and use the same. I v
This invention relates to covers for foot supports and more particularly to a cover which will prevent slippage of a persons shoe when placed on the support.
The primary purpose of the invention is to provide aifriction cover for the foot supports of boot-black stands.
It is well known that stands of this type are provided with foot supports which are relatively narrow to permit the sides of the shoe to extendbeyond the sides of the support so that the latter will not interfere with the operations of polishing the shoe. These supports are of metal, usually brass, and after a short period of use becomevery slippery, thus making it difficult to retain the shoe in place on such. support. The present invention provides a simple and inexpensive means for remedying the objections just noted.
The novel features of the invention will appear from the detailed description thereof taken in connection with the accompanying drawing forming part of the specification, the scope of the invention being de-' fined in the appended claim.
In the drawings Y Figure 1 is a plan view of the improved cover:
with the improved cover thereon, the cover being shown in longitudinal section. V

Fig. 5 is a bottom proved cover,
In the drawings, 10 indicates a foot support having a step or drop 11 at one end thereof, the support constituting in effect a head on the supporting members 12. The support 10 is usually slightly curved to conform to the bottom of the sh e hi h is is plan view of the i111- be placed thereon andthe drop 11 provides an abutment 13 against which the inside of the heel will contact when on the support.
The improved cover is an elongated member having curved ends 1 1, 15. The cover is provided with a drop or step 16 corresponding to the drop 11 on the support thereby providing an abutment 17 between the heel or step portion 16 and the sole portion 18 of the cover. The cover is provided with a depending peripheral flange comprising side portions 19 and toe and heel portions 20. The toe and heel portions are inwardly directed and adapted to extend under the heel and toe parts of the support whereby to hold the cover securely in place on the support. The side flanges serve to prevent lateral displacement of the cover and are also preferably inwardly directed.
The coveris preferably made from flexible friction material such as rubber. The depending flanges are flexible and serve to closely hug-or grip theside edges of the support. By reason of the flexibility of the cover it is easily put-on and removed from the support. The face of the cover may be provided with ridges 21 to assist in holding the shoe on the support.
'The improved cover not only provides a frictional contact at the sole portion 18 and the heel drop 16, but also provides frictional contact at therise or abutment 17. The inner edge of the heel of the shoe is a comparatively sharp edge and will tend to. embed itself into theabutment 17 and consequently upward movement of the heel will be effectually prevented.
The invention is comparatively simple, is of great practical utility and can be manu- I factured at low cost. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a foot support What I claim is: The combination with a foot support having a stepped portion at one end, of a cover for the foot support comprising a memberl'1aving' a stepped portion at one end, of
