IMPRQVEMEHNT IN GAME APPARATUS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 153,912, dated August 11, 1874; application filed July 6, 1874.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY SEHER, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improved Game Apparatus, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making part of this specification, in whichf Figure lis a perspective view of my improved game apparatus. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the center ofthe same.

My present invention relates to an improvement in the playing-table for which Letters Patent of the United States, No. 85,539, were granted to me on the 5th of January, 1869, and has for its object to render the game played thereon one of skill instead of one of chance; and my invention consists in a revolving box haying a raisedbottorn, provided at its center with a depression, at or near the edge of which are formed one or more pockets, an annular space being left between the raised bottom and the inside of the revolving box, which is divided into compartments the game being played by placing a ball in the central depression and then revolving the box, the centrifugal fore-e causing the ball to revolve in a path constantly receding from the center, until it drops into one of the pockets at the edge of the depression, or into one of the outer compartments, the pockets and compartments being di'erently numbered.

To enable others skilled in the art'to understand and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the manner in which I have carried it out.

In the' said drawings, Arepresents a circular box or receptacle, from the center of the bottom of which projects a pin, b, which lits into a bearing, c, secured to the top of a support, B, which construction admits ofthe box being revolved freely thereon. The box A is provided with a raised portion or bottom, C, at the center ot' which is a depression, d, for receiving the ball e to be revolved; the bottom C being beveled or chamfered olffrom the outer edge of the depression d down to its periphery. Between the raised bott'n C and the inside of the box is an annular space, which is divided by partitions f into a series of compartments, g, each one of which is represented by a dili'erent number. Within the bottom C are formed two circularrecesses or pockets, h, which are situated diametrically` the ball to gradually move away from the center, until it drops into one of the pockets h, or rides up over the line forming the top or edge of the central depression, when it will ily oli' the raised bottom C into one of the outer compartments g, an interesting game being thus produced, which can be played by a number of persons.

Considerable skill is required to apply the exact force necessary to impart such motion to the box A as will cause the ball e to lodge in one ot' the pockets h, and the interest in the game is thus increased, as the result depends more upon skill than chance. If dey sired, the raised bottom may be provided with a single pocket, h, or more than two and two or more balls may be placed at the same time within the central depression d without departing from the spirit of my invention.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The within-described game apparatus, consisting of the revolving box A, having a raised bottom, C, provided with a central depression, d, one or more pockets, h, and the outer coinpartments g, constructed and arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
