Be it known that I, ALBERT EMANUEL GrNsnnRo, a subject of the King of England, and a resident of Lynwood, Queens Drive, Mossley Hill, Liverpool, in the county of Lancaster, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements' in or Relating to Safety Razors, of which the following isa specification. l

This invention relates ,torazors of the safety type, and has for its object to rovide a razor or razor portion adapte to contain a plurality of shaving blades which are revolu ly disposed withln a casing or magazine, means being provided whereby any selected blade may be carried to a po-. for use or withdrawn into the casing sition or magazine.- 1 l will -iurther describe my invention with vthe aid of the 'accompanying sheets' of explanatory drawings by way of example only, 'one mode of embodying same, the several views being drawn to an enlarged' scale.

Disposed on the exterior of said casing or magazine 1 is a bent or curved cover plate 8 provided with a slot 9 wherethrough extends a screw-threaded spindle piece 10 on which is screwed a nut 11 and a handle 12, said nut 11 being provided for the purpose of preventing d1splacementof the cover plate when the handle 12is removed. 13 indicates a knob on said plate 8.

At each side of said cover plate 8 there is formed an out-turned strip or tongue 14.

In one end -of said casing or ma azine' there is permanently secured a disc c osure 15 and at the other end of said casing or magazine there is removably disposed a disc closure 16, said closure 16 being provided with positioning lugs 17 which are adapted to enterslots or recesses 18 provided for their reception in an end of the casing or magazine.. i

Extending centrally through said casing or magazine-1 is a spindle v19 one end whereof passes through and is supported by the permanent end closure 15 and is provided with a crank handle 20. whilst the other end passes 4throingh and is supported by said end closure 16 which is detachabl engaged `with said spindle 19 by means o 'a sliding plate 21 wherein is formed a key-hole slot 22 through which an end of said spindle 19 projects, the reduced portion of the key- L hole slot 22 -being adapted to engage an annular groove 2,3 formed in said splndle 19 when said plate is moved to locklng posi- Y In the inner disc of each end closure there is formed va slot 28, and on said disc there is created a circular projection 29, the circle, liowever, being broken at said slot 2,8 of the isc.

Disposed between and secured to said slides 25 is a handle piece 30, the slide 25 of said` removable disc 16 being connected through a rod 31 which is screwed into the handle and isprovided with a headpiece 32,

Adapted to slide on Said spindle 19 `is al tubular piece or sleeve 33 to each end of which is secured a disc 34 wherein are formed a plurality of radial slots '35. Said 'sleeve 33 is detachably connected with said spindle 19 by the aid of a lateral pin-like projection 36 provided 0n said spindle 19 with which pin a slotted portion 37 of the sleeve engages when the sleeve 33 is being slid on to the spindle 19.

Rem'ovably positioned in each posed slots 35 o said discs 34 'is a razor blade38 with carrier 39 (said carrier being a piece of sheet metal clamped on the nonshaving edgev of the razor) the ends of which project somewhat beyond the discs 34.

Assuming the razor is not required for the purpose of shaving, the partsare in the positions shown in Figs. 1 to 5, when the blade 38a is in alignment with the magazine slot 2, andthe endsy of its carrier 39 are lying in the lateral channels 27 of the slide bars 25; the cover plate 8 is shrouding the slot 2 of the casing or magazine, and its tongues 14 are snuglyabutting the slotted pillars 3, 3.

When it is requlred to move said blade 38a into shaving position said cover plate 8 is moved to unmask the casing or magazine slot 2 andthe handle 30 is pushed, whereupon the slides 25 are projected and in their movement carry sai blade 38'L tothe guard 6, its movement being ultimately arrested when it enters the stop pieces 7 of said guard; said'cover plate 8 is now moved back to shroud the casing or magazine slot 2, and the tongues 14 ag the pillars 3, 3,so that ingress of soap or waterr to the interior of the razor is wholly or largely'prevented. g

Said tongues 14 also constitute, if necessary, positive su ports for. the bladel which is thus prevente from accidental displacement. v

To withdraw said blade 38a into the casing or magazine again, the cover plate 8 is moved somewhat and the slides 25 are moved by the pullingof the handle 30, so that the blade 38 is carried back into 4the casing or magazine 1, as shown in Flgs. 1 to 5 of the drawings. To -bring the next succeeding blade 38 into position for use, said crank handle20 is turned until it coincides or registers with the appropriate numeral of the disc 15, in which movement of the handle 20 the holder (comprising sleeve pair of opj ain move against4 yand end discs) with its blades has been so revolved a vstep that the first mentioned blade 38a has been carried out of the lateral channels 27 of the slides 25 and the ends of the carrier of the next succeeding blade 38 have been moved into said guide channels 27, said latter blade being thus disconnected from the holder and connected with the slides; this second blade is now ready for projection asjbefore described tothe .shaving position shown in Fig. 6.

It is to be noted that said pillars 3, 3, form guides for the blade carrier 39 when a blade 38 is being projected or retracted.

As the ends of said blade carriers 39 move within the ring protuberance 29 of said end closures they are prevented from displace- Ament and are positively carried to the lateral channels 27 of the slides 2 5 as and when required.

Vhen it is required to withdraw a blade holder from the casing or magazine it is merely necessary to unscrew the rod or spindle 31 from the handle 30 somewhat when the disc 16, 16a may be swung about said rod as a pivot clear of the casing 1 so that the holder may be withdrawn and a refill loaded into the casing or magazine without detachment of anyof the parts of the razor handle portion; see Fig. 12 of the drawings.

It is tobe clearly understood that I do not wish to confine myself to the particular mode of carrying my invention into effect as hereinbefore described, as various changes may be made in the construction Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention; and what I claim as my invention and desire tosecure by Letters Patent is:

1. A safety razor which comprises a casing adapted to revolublyhold a plurality of shaving blades; a guard; and means whereby a shaving blade, in said casing may be radially carried to position for use, or withdrawn into said casing.

2. A safety razor which 'comprises a casing, a ard, a plurality of shaving blades revolub y dis osed within said casing, and means where any selected shavin bladel maybe radialllj7 carried to position ger use, or withdrawn into said casin/gf.

3. A safet razor which comprises a casing, a guar and means/comprisingl slide members'dis osed at the ends of said casing, adapted when actuated, to 1'adiall \l carry a revolubly mounted shaving blade previously moved into engagement therewith to position for use or Withdraw it into said casm 4. A saety razor which comprises a casing, a guard, slide members disposed at the ends of said casing adapted when actuated, to radially carry a shaving blade previously moved into engagement therewith to position for use or withdraw it into said casing, a plurality of shaving blades, revolubly disposed within said casing, and meanssuch as the provision of lateral passages in said slide members-whereby any one of said shaving blades, through revoluble motion, be engaged with or disengaged from said slide members.

5. In combination with a safety razor as claimed in the preceding claim 4, and in which razor lateral passages are provided in said slide members, a shaving blade holder comprising a sleeve, adapted to lit on the spindle extending through said casing, and end discs having radial slots in` which are disposed shaving blades provided with carrier pieces the ends whereof project from said discs and are adapted to engage in or disengage from said lateral passages of said slide members on revoluble motion being imparted to said holder.

6. In a safety razor as claimed in claim Il, a construction in which said guard is carried on pil1ars,`which constitute guides for the shaving blades in their movement to or from the guard. v y

7. In a safety razor as claimed in claim 3, and in which slide members are employed for the purpose specified, the provislon on the end closure members of the casing of circular projections whereby the blades are positively guided to and from said slides.

8. In a safety razor as claimed in claim 3,

and in which slide members are employed for the purpose specified, a construction in which said slides are carried between end closure discs.

9. In a safety razor as claimed in claim 3,

means whereby a shaving blade holder with bladesmay be removed from or inserted in the casing without detachment of any of the parts comprising the razor-handle portion.

10. For use in connection with a safety razor as claimed in claim 1, a shaving blade holder comprising a sleeve on the ends of which arev secured discs provided with radial slots which are adapted to receive razor blades and their carrier pieces, and means whereby said holder may be detachably connected with a spindle extending through said casing.

11. In a safety razor as claimed in claim 3, and in which the guard is carried ou pillars, a cover lplate disposed on the casing and provided with means whereby a shaving blade is prevented from accidental displacement when in position of use.
