Description
H. CASLER May 19, 1925.
SKATE WHEEL Filed Feb. 11, 1924 To all whom it concern Patented May '19, 1 925 UNITED s'rA-TEs HERMAN' CASLER, OF CANASTOTA, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO PRODUCTION ENGINEER- ING- CORPORATION, OF CANASTOTA, NEW YORK. I
SKATE WHEEL.
Application filed February 11, 1924. Serial No. 692,111.
Be it known that HERMAN CAsLnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canastota, in thecounty of Madison and State of New York, has invented certain new and useful. Improvements in Skate Wheels, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates. to skate wheels and has for its object to provide a strong, e-fiicientwheel of economical construction, the parts of which can be easily and quickly assembled.
Other and further objects and advantages will be in part described and in part obvious as the description is proceeded with.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification-,
Figure 1 is a viewin elevationof a skate Wheel embodying my invention;
Figure 2 is a view in transverse section of the same on the line 22 of Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is a section on the line 33 of Figure 2.
7 Referring more particularly to the drawings wherein like reference numerals refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views, 5 denotes a roller skate wheel comprising an axle 6, mounted; in hub 7.
Inner and outer washers 8 and 9 bear against the. respective ends of the hub 7, and are held in place upon the axle by'inner and outer dust caps lO and 11, the inner cap 11, being weldedor otherwise suitably Secured to the usual skate bracket 12.
' Ball bearings 13 which rest upon the hub 7, are confined between the plates 8 and 9 by'inner and outer bearing cups 14 and 15,
A peripheral wheel cup-ortread member roller Itwill be noted that the bearing cups 14 and 15 have central open-.
20 is supported at its outer side upon the cup 15, by the side wall 21 of the tread meinber20, and at its other side issupported upon a disc 22, which in turn snugly seats upon the bearing cup 14, afiange 34 on the member 20 beingprovided for a purpose about to be described.
Positioned between the side wall 21 and the disc 22, are inner and outer ring like bands 23 and 24, the former being of a size a to span and seat snugly upon the bearing cups, and the latterbeing of a size to seat snugly against the inner periphery of the tread member 20 and against the inner face of the disc 22. These bands 23 and 24 tightly clamp the disc 22 against the aforesaid flanges 32 and 34. The side wall 21 of the tread member is preferably provided with apertures 25, to facilitate assembly of y the various parts. It will be noted that the bands 23 and 24 are split as at 26 and 27, that is, their meeting edges are not con nected. Consequently these parts can be readilysprung into place.
From the foregoing it will be readily seen that the Wheel parts can be easily and quickly assembled and held tightly in place without the use of screws or bolts.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A wheel comprising a hub having circumferential grooves therein, bearing cups and ball bearings there-for mounted on the hub, split wire coils in said grooves to prevent displacementof saidball'bearings, a tread member having a side wall resting upon one of said cups, a disk resting upon the other of said cups and engaging the tread member, inner and outer spaced split bands extending between said side wall and said disk, said inner band spanning and resting upon the said cups, and the said outer band snugly seated within the tread member.
.2. A wheel comprising a hub, ball bearings and bearing cups therefor on said hub, means for preventing displacement of said balls andbearing cups from said hub, said cups formed with flanges, a tread member having a side wall at one side and a flange last two mentioned flanges, and holding said at the opposite side thereof, said side wall cups apart and against the bearings. 10 adapted to snugly seat against the flange In testimony whereof I affix my signature of one of said cups, a disc adapted to snugly in presence of two witnesses.
seat against the flange on said tread mein- HERMAN CASLER. her and againstthe flange of the other of Witnesses: said cups, and inner and outer split ring E. B. JACOB,
like bands clamping said disc against said M. M. HESLIN.
