To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FELIX TWOREK, a citizen of United States, residing at Dun can, in the county of Platte and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and. useful Improvements in Demountable Rims, of which the following is a specification,
This. invention relates to improvements in demountable rims for Vehicle wheels and I has as one of its objects to provide a device which may be permanently attached to the rim or the like and by which the rim ends may be held in normal operative position or forced apart to permit dismounting.
115 Another purpose is to produce a device which is entirely self-contained, requires the use of no tools or accessories in its operation and whlch occupies a l1m1ted space not otherwise, utilized.
'A further aim is in the provision of a simple and eifective device for clamping or releasing a rim, comprised of few parts, cheaply made and easy to apply.
These several aims and objects are accomplished by the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereafter described andshown in the accompanying drawing, forming an essential part. of this disclosure, and in which Figure l is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view showing a conventional type of wheel rim at its joint and illustrating the application of the invention, the same being shown as in a closed or clamping position.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of the same, but showing the rim as separated and the device as in operative position.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary plan View looking from the inner side of the rim.
Referring to the drawing more in detail, the numeral 10 designates the web or .body portion of a conventional form of split rim of the clincher type having raised peripheral ends having a flanged edges 11, the rim single abutting joint in which the end edges 12 and 13 are formed at an angle as shown,
but it is to be understood that the device is applicable to other type of rims as well.

In addition to the foregoing a strong wire loop 27 is pivoted in a pair of. brackets28 7 fixed. on the rim portion bearing the element 14, this loop providing means for securing the rim end while operating on the other,] serving as an anchor.
In operation, when the rim is-to be contracted, asin applying a tire, the lever is released from the detent or catch 21 and I drawn by hands toward the loop, whichat that time may be engaged with some'fixed object; this movement of the lever draws the rod 25 in a circular path of which the pin 16' is the axis, moving the end 12 of the rim over and past the end 13, thus decreasingthe diameter of the rim permitting changes to be made in the tire. Obviously, pressing thelever into positionshown in Figure 1 causes the parts toessume their normal holding position. From the foregoing it will be seen that a novel and practical device for the purpose 95v has been disclosed, but clearly minor changes may be made without departing from-the spirit of the invention as hereafter claimed.
