JOHANN G. PETERSON, OE HAETFCRD, CONNECTICUT,
ELECTRIC CONNECTING PLUG.
Application filed May 9,
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOIIANN G. Pn'rnnson, citizen of the United States of America, residing at 94: Allyn Street, Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric Connecting Plugs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an electric connecting plug, the principal object of the invention being to furnish an implement of the nature set forth which is adapted for exceedingly inexpensive manufacture without affecting its efficiency.
In the drawing accompanying and forming part of the present specification, I have shown in full a highly advantageous form of embodiment of the invention which, to enable those skilled in the art to practice the same, will be set forth fully in the following description. I am not restricted to this disclosure. I may depart therefrom in a number of particulars within the scope of the invention defined by the claims following said description.
Referring to said drawing:
Fig. 1 is a bottom plan of the plug.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view.
Fig. i is a bottom plan view with the disc removed. I
Fig. 5 is a longitudinal central sectional view of the plug.
Like characters refer to like througl'iout the several views.
The article represented involves in its make-up a body, such as 2, which is of the form common in'articles of this kind. The body has fitted to itslower end a shell 3 of screw type and which shell has the bottom portion, as 3, fitted against the under face tlatwise of the body 2.
Over the flanged bottom 3' of the shell 3 fits a disc 5 concentric with and against'the else 8, the two being held in place by hollow rivets 6 which, as shown, are embedded in the body :2. The outer disc 5 has. the central tubular projection or off-standing portion 7 which constitutes, as will be clear, the central end contact of the plug. The disc 5 is of conducting substance, the disc 8 being of insulating material. The hollow rivets 6 clamp together the insulating and conducting discs 8 and 5.
The insulating disc has in it the slot 7 to receive the butt end of the contact 10 which,
parts flange and 1924. Seria1No.'712,036. V
as represented, is furnished with an inward extension fitted in a channel extending rearwardly of the base 3 and which, as shown, extends slightly onto the segmental slot 12 in the flange 3 as represented best in Fig. 4.
The contact isof irregular form in cross section and is disposed in the passage 13 extending longitudinally of the body 2, as best illustrated in Fig. 5. Parallel with said passage 13 is a passage let which receives a like contact 15, the outer end of which ex tends through a slot in the base 3 and is in electrical connection with the base 3.
It will be clear from the foregoing description, in connection with the annexed drawing, that my connecting plug comprises a body of insulating material having parallel bores, a threaded contact shell fitted over an end of the body and having an end flange engaging an end of the body, a disc fitting around the flange, the body having two hollow rivets embedded therein, extending through the end flange and also through the disc, a disc fitted against the other disc ierfor'ated to receive the rivets which are extended through the discs and headed over the outer or conducting disc, the latter disc having a central end contact, together with the contacts fitted in the respective bores, one of which has a portion bent between the end said insulating disc and the other having a portion extending through a slot in the insulating disc and clamped by the conducting disc to the insulating disc.
It might also be noted that the contacts 10 and 15 engage solidly the rear or outer walls of the passages 13 and 14: respectively which is an important condition in that a tension on the contacts is assured. I also desire to call attention to the fact that the lower terminal end of the contact 15 extends into a slot in the bottom 3 of the shell 3 and thus the contact acts as a key to ,prevent the shell from turning.
iVhat I claim is: p
l. A connecting plug eomprisinga body of insulatingmaterial l'iaving parallel bores, a threaded contact shell fitted over an end of the body and having an end flange engaging an end of the body, a disc fitting against the flange, the body having two hollow rivets embedded therein, extending through the end flange and also through the disc, a disc fitted against the other disc, perforated to receive said rivets, the rivets being extended through both discs and headed over the outer face of the outer disc, the latter disc having a central end contact, and-two contacts fitted in the respective bores, one of which has a portion bent between the end flange and said insulating disc, the other having a portion extending through a slot in the insulating disc and clamped by the conducting disc to the insulating disc.
2. A connecting plugcomprising a body of insulating material having parallel bores,
a threaded contact shell fitted over an end of the body and having end flange engaging an end of the body, a disc fitting against the flange and of insulating material, the body having two hollow rivets embedded therein and extending through the end flange and also through the disc, a disc fitting against the other disc perforated toreceive the rivets which extendthrough both discs and which are headed over the outer face of the outer disc, the latter having a central projection which is hollow and which functions as a central end contact, and two contacts fitted in the respective bores, one of which has a portion bent between the end flange and said insulating disc, the other having a portion extending through a slot in the insulating disc and clamped by the conducting. disc to the insulating disc.
3. A connecting plug comprising a body of insulating material having parallel bores, a threaded contact shell fitted over an end of the body and having an end flange engaging an end of the body, the disc fitting against the flange, the body having two rivets embedded therein, extending through the end flange and also through the disc, a disc fitted against the other disc, the rivets being extended through both discs and headed over the outer surface ot-the outer disc, the latter disc having a central end contact, and two resilient contacts fitted in the respective bores, one of which has a portion in contact with the end flange ofsaid insulating disc, the other having a portion clamped by the conducting disc against the insulating disc, the two icontacts -having resilient portions in contact with the outer'surfaoe of said bores to stiffen said resilient portions.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
