Description

A. KORONA MUSICAL TOP May 12, 1925.
Filed Dec. 21, 1921 Patented May 12, 1925.
UNITED STATES ANTONI KORONA, F NEWMARKET, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
MUSICAL TOP.
Application filed. December 21, 1921. Serial No. 523,810.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTONI KoRoNA, a citizen of Poland, residing at Newmarket, in the county of Rockingham and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Musical Tops, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to toys, having more particular reference to a musical top which upon being spun will sound a musical note or notes, the invention having for an object to provide a novel and simple toy of this type. I
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the. objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claim in which the various novelfeatures of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Fig. 1 of the drawings is a part vertical elevation and part axial-sectional View of a top constructed according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view, partly in horizontal section.
As here shown my improved top comprises a hollow spherical body 10, slightly flattened at one end to receive the circular flange 11 of the tip or point 12 on which the top spins, the tip being elongated su'fli ciently to have the cord.13, by which the top is spun, wound therearound. T
Formed in the sides of the sphere 10, and spaced evenly therea-round, are a series of openings 15 from the sides of which curved vanes 16 project outwardly and forwardly. These openings 15 and vanes 16 are preferably located slightly below the centre of the sphere.
Formed in the top of thesphere, in axial alinement with the tip 12 is an opening 17 surrounded by a neck 18 into which is screwed a compound whistle comprising a series of flutes 19 which are constructed in awell known manner to operate when air is blown outwardly therethrough, each flute being preferably arranged to give off a different note.
As a preferred means for spinning my nnproved top I provide a handle 20 to which is fixed a disk 21 having a central aperture 22 to receive the tip 12, and a small hole 23 in the side thereof leading into the aperture 22,
- into the hollow interior thereof through the openings 15, the air passing out through the whistle member 19 and causing the latter to sound.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect b Letters Patent of the United States is as follows I A top comprising a hollow spherical body having a series of openings spaced therea-round, vanes curving outwardly and forwardly from the sides of said openings, a whistle member mounted on the top of said body, and a narrow elongated tip projecting downward from said body and forming a winding drum for a cord, said body presenting a flattened circular base portion from which said tip projects downward, said base portion being adapted to support the top on a suitable handle prior to spinning thereof. e
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature.
' v ANTONI KORONA.
