Description

May 12, 1925. 1,537,303
G. S. HUNT MOLD Flevd Nov. 16 1923 Patented May 12, 1925.
UNITED STATES GEORGE S. HUNT, 0F CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
MOLD.
' Application filed November 16, 1923. Serial No. 675,108.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE S. HUNT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident ofthe city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Molds, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in molds, especially adapted for forming tomb stones out of concrete material such as sand and cement, the object of the invention being to provide a simple and durable construction of this. character by means of which certain metal emblems or other ornamentation may be readily incorporated in and made a permanent part of the tomb stone orother ob-` ject formed in the mold. Other objects will appear hereinafter. The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed. The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which- Fig. 1 is a vertical section 'of a mold embodying the invention, said section being taken substantially on line 1 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 2, a horizontal section of the mold taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1; and j Fig. 3, an enlarged, partial, transverse section taken through the bottom of the mold.
rIhe preferred form of construction, as illustrated in the drawing, comprises a mold made of four wooden sides, 4, 5, 6 and 7 hinged together at the four corners as shown, one of the hinged connections being detachable so that the said sides may be readily swung downwardly to free a block enclosed therein. The bottom` 8 of the mold is detachably secured to the sides thereof by means of dowels 9 as shown. Arranged centrally in the bottom of the mold is a recess 10, the edges 11 of said recess being flared, said recess being arranged and adapted to receive portions of a metallic emblem or other ornamental plate 12, the edges of-which are flared to'correspond with the flare in said recess. By this arrangement it will be observed that when the mold is assembled and anemblem 12 positioned in the recess 10 the portions of said emblem of greatest lateral dimension protrude somewhat'above the bottom 8 of the mold, so that when the block 13 is formed or cast in the mold the said emblem will be partially embedded and securely locked in said block by means of the flaring edges of the emblem. Thus when the block isremoved from themold the emblem will also be readily removed and will be securely attached to and permanently incorporated in the block. The mold is especially adapted for forming tomb stones ywith suitable emblems or other metallic platesy or ornamentation secured to 'and permanently incorporated therein.y
While I have illustrated and described the preferred formrof constructionfor carrying my invention into effect, this is'capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, donot wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as comewithin the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A mold comprising sides and a bottom,
said bottom being recessed to receive por.
tions of a metallic member having projecj tion above the bottom between the sides of the mold, substantially as described.
2. A mold comprising sides and a bottom, said bottom being recessed to receive portions of a metallic member Vhaving projection above the bottom between the sides of the mold, the Vsides of said recess being flared, substantially as described.
3. A mold comprising sides and a bottom,
said sides being connected atthe corners, one
' connection being detachable, said bottom being recessed to receive portions of a metallic member having projection above the bottom between the sides of the mold, substantially as described.
4. A mold comprising sides and a bottom,
said sides being connected at the corners, one
connection being detachable, saidbottombe-V ing recessed to receive portions of a metallic member having projection above the bottom between the sides of the mold, the sides. of
said recess being flared, substantially as de` scribed. v
5. AV mold comprising fourjsides and a bottom, said sides being connected at kthe corners, one connection being detachable,
und said bottom being detachably secured to In testimony whereof I have signed my said sides by means of dowels, said bottom name to this specification in the presence of being cent-rally recessed ,to receive portions two subsoribing Witnesses.
of :1 metallic member hai/ing projection GEORGE S. HUNT. above the bottom between the sides of the mold, the sides of said recess being alred, substantially as described. A
Witnesses:
