To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DAVIS MARINSKY, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county -of Bronx and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hook and Eye Tapes,.of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which itappertains to make and use the same. I This invention relates to hook and eye tapes and particularly to articles-of this class designed to be attached to garments, or the separate parts thereof, and the object of my present invention is to provide a novel method of mounting the hook devices and eyes in connection with the separate tapes or strips and for retaining said hook devices and eyes in connection therewith against accidental displacement; a further object being to provide an improved method of securing my improved hook and eye tape, or the separate parts thereof, to a garment and to secure the separate parts of each tape member together in such manner that but one line of stitching will appear, or be visibi when the tape or one member thereof is secured to a garment; and with these and other objects in view the invention consists in an article of the class and for the purpose specified which is simple in construction and eflicien't in use, and which is constructed as hereinafter described andyclaimed.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accom. panying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Fig. 1 is a plan view showing two garment parts attached by m improved hook and eye tape, with part the construction broken away;

Figs. 5 and 6 are detail views showing the method of perforating one of the strips of each tape member and of attaching the separate strips prior to folding the same; and.

Figs. 7 and 8 are sectional detail views diagrammatically illustrating the method of attaching the hook devices and eyes to the separate tape members of my improved article.

In Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing, I have indicated at 10 and 11 two garment parts adapted to be joined by my improved hook and eye tape construction, or article, which is composed of two tape members 12 and 13, the tape member 12 in the construction shown constituting the hook tape, while the tape member 13 constitutes the eye tape. The tape members 12 and 13 are shown in detail in Figs. 3 to (i inclusive, and in section in Figs. 7 and 8. The tape member 12 comprises two cloth strips 14 and 15, the strip 14 being provided adjacent to one side edge thereof with longitudinally and equally spaced apertures 16, and the other edge portion of said strip is folded as shown at 17 The strip 15, or one side edge thereof, is folded as shown at 18 and the strips 14 and are placed one upon another, as shown in Fig. 5 of the drawing, and attached by a line of stitching 19 which passescentrally through the apertures 16 in the strip 14 to provide between the separate strips 14 and 15 a plurality of spaced openings or passages 20 through which the hook devices 21 are adapted to pass. It will be apparent that the stitching 19 when it passes-through the apertures 16 will fail to stitch the separate strips 14 and 15 together, at these points to form the openings therebetween. After the strip 12 has been formed, as above set out, and the hook devices mounted therein in the manner diagrammatically illustrated in Fig. 7, the strip 14 is folded upon the strip 15 in the manner shown in Fig. 3 and the part 10 of the garment is placed between the strips 14 and 15 andsecured therein by a line of stitching 22, which passes through the strips 14 and 15 and through the part 10 of the garn'ient, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and this line of stitching also serves to retain the hook devices 21 against displacement in the tape member 12.

The tape member 13 is composed of two strips 23 and 24, the strip 23 being folded at one side edge as shown at 25 and provided approximately centrally thereof with spaced apertures 26 corresponding to the apertures 16, and the strip 24 is folded at one side edge as shown at 27 and also folded approximately centrally thereof to form a flap 28, as clearly shown in Fig. 6 of the drawing, and the strips thus folded are placed one upon another as shown in Fig. 6, and is secured together by a line of stitching 29 passing centrally through the apertures 26 as in the construction shown in Fig. 5 and to form passages or openings 30 between the strips 23 and 24, where the apertures 26 are located. After the strips have been connected, as above set out, eyes 31- are passed through the spaces 30 of the, tape member 13, or the strips 23 and 24 thereof, are folded into the position shown in Fig. 4, and it will be noted that the eyes 31 are located between the flap 28 of the strip 24, and the side edge 32 of the strip 23, said parts being approximately of the same width and extending beyond the inner ends of the eyes 31 and are adapted to be stitched together as shown at 33, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 to hold the eyes against displacement in the tape member 13.

After the tape member 13 has been formed in the manner above set out, the garment part 11 is placed between the strips 23 and 24 as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing and is secured in position, or to the tape member 13 by a line of stitching 34 which passes through the separate strips 23 and 24 and the garment part 11. It will be noted that when the complete hook and eye tape is formed and applied to a garment, or the separate parts thereof, the tape member 12, or the strip 15 thereof, extends beneath the tape member 13 to form a closure flap 35, and the tape member 13, or the strip 24 thereof, projects beyond the edge of said tape member 13 and overlaps the flap 35 as shown at 36 to produce a neat and finished appearance.

It will also be noted that both tape mem bers, or the strips 14 and 23 thereof, are folded upon the lines of stitchings 19 and 29 respectively so that when said tape members are applied to a garment, or the separate parts thereof, the lines of stitchings 19 and 29 are invisible, and the only stitchings that will appear will be the stitchings 22 and 34, and this will also aid in producing a neat and finished appearance to the complete article which is very desirable in the manufacture of various kinds and classes of garments. It will also be understood that I am not necessarily limited to the specific form and construction of the separate tape members, or the strips thereof, and various changes in and modifi cations of the construction herein shown and described may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificin its advantages.

having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. An article of the class described comprising separate tape members in connection with, which hook devices and eyes are adapted. tobe mounted, said tape members being composed of separate strips, one of the strips of eaclrof said tape members being provided with equally spaced apertures, and said strips being secured together by a line of stitching passing through the apertures of said strips to form between'the separate strips of said tape members pas sages or openings through which the hook devices and eyes are adapated to be passed.

2. An article of the class described comprising separate tape members in connection with which hook devices and eyes are adapted to be mounted, said tape members being composed of separate strips, one of the strips of each of said tape members being provided with equally spaced apertures, said strips being secured together by a line of stitching passing through the apertures of said strips to form between the separate strips of said tape members passages or openings through which the hook devices and eyes are adapted to be passed, and the apertured strips of said tape members being folded along the lines of stitchings to retain the loop portions of said hook devices and eyes between the separate strips of said tape members.

An article of the class described com prising separate tape members in connection with which hook devices and eyes are adapted to be mounted, said tape members being composed of separate strips, one of the strips of each of said tape members being provided with equally spaced apertures, said strips being secured together by a line of stitching passing through the apertures of said strips to form between the separate strips of said tape members passages or openings through which the hook devices and eyes are adapted to be passed, the apertured strips of said tape members being folded along the lines of stitchings to retain the loop portions of said hook devices and eyes between the separate strips of said tape members, and the strip of one of said tape members, being secured together by a line of stitching to retain the eyes against displacement.

An article of the class described comprising two tape members in which hook devices and eyes are adapted to be mounted, one of said tape members being composed of two strips, one ofv the strips of said tape member being provided with spaced apertures, said strips being secured together-by a line of stitching passing through the apertures of said first named strip to form between the separate strips where stitched together openings through which hook devices or eyes are adapted to be passed.

An article of the class described comprising two tape members in which hook evices and eyes are adapted to be mounted, one of said tape members being composed of two strips, one of the strips of said tape member being provided with spaced apertures, said strips being secured together by a line of stitching passing through the apertures of said first named strip to form between the separate strips where stitched together openings througln which hook devices or eyes are adapted-to be passed, and said apertured strip being adapted to be folded upon the other strip on the line of stitchin -6. An article of the class described comprising two'tape members in which hook devices and eyes areadapted to be mounted, one of said tape members being composed of two strips, one of the strips of said tape member being provided with spaced apertures, said strips'being secured together by a line of stitching passing through the apertures of said first named strip to form between the separate strips where stitched together openings through which hook devices or eyes are adapted to be passed, said apertured strip being adapted to be folded upon the other strip on the line of stitching, and said tape member beingadapt'ed to be secured to a garment part placed between the folded portions of said strips and secured thereto by a line of stitching which passes through the separate strips of said tape member and said garment part.

7.- An article of the class described composed of two tape members in connection with which hook devices and eyes are adapted to be mounted, said ta e members being each composed of two stri s of fabric, one of the strips of each of said tape members being provided withequally spaced apertures and the separate strips of said tape members being secured together by lines of stitchings passing through the apertures of said first named strips to form between the separate strips of said tape members openings through which hook devices and eyes are adapted to be passed, and the apertured strips of said tape members being folded upon the lines of stitching onto the other of said strips to form pockets between the separate strips of said tape members into which garment parts are adapted to be inserted and secured to said tape members by lines of stitchings passing therethrough and through the separate strips of said tape members.

8. An article of the class described com posed of two tape members in connection with which hook devices and eyes are adapted to be mounted, said tape members being each composed of two strips of fabric, one of the strips of each of said tape members being provided with equally spaced apertures and the separate strips of said tape members being secured together by lines of stitchings passing through the apertures of said first named strips to form between the separate strips of said tape members openings throu h which hook devices and eyes are adapted to be passed, and the apertured strips of said tape members being folded upon the lines of stitching onto theother of said strips to form pockets between the separate strips of said tape members into which garment parts are adapted to be inserted and secured to said tape members by lines of stitchings passing therethrough and through the separate strips of said tape members, and one of said tape members or the separate strips thereof being secured together to retain the eyes against accidental displacement.
