To all whom it may concern:
Be it known, that I, HARRY A. DOUGLAS, citizen of the United States, residin at Bronson, in the county of Branch and tate of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Circuit-Continu ing Devi-(tempt which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description.
, My invention relates to circuit continuing devices which employ shells that are assembled with contact carriers and other contact carriers separably coupled with said shells and carrying contacts which are on gaged by spring pressed contact.
My invention has for its object simplifi cation in the construction and assembly of such devices, the preferred embodiment of the invention being illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 is an axial 2o sectionalview of the device and a portion of a reflector with which it is assembled and Fig. 2 is a view, on a lar or scale, of a part of the structure as it is il ust-rated in Fig. 1.
The metallic shell 3 is formed with bayonet channels 4 rovided with seats at their innermost en s which receive the bayonet projections upon a plug receivable in said shelL.
The shell is formed with an annular recess within its rear end in which the disc or body 11 of insulation is received. The device illustrated is a so-called single pole device, to which the invention is not to be limited."- In the case of a single ole device, the insulating disc 11 is provi ed with a central hole which, in the embodiment of the invention shown, receives the rear end of a metallic sleeve 12. This sleeve is termed with an external circumferential groove at its rear end preferably by means of spaced apart shoulders 13, 14. The central portion of the disc is tightly held within said groove by and between these shoulders whereby the body of insulation is held in fixed relation with said sleeve. A tubular metallic contact member 15 is in sliding engagement with and within the sleeve 12 and carries the electrical contact 10 upon its inner end. A current conductin wire 16 passes through the bore of the llllfllltlI'COl'lbECii 15 and through the inner closed end of the tubular contact, the contact element 10 being desirably a facing of solder that secures the inner end of the conductor 16 in mechanical and electrical relation till with the tubular contact member. The bore of this contact member is desirably enlar ed and snugly receives the serving or insulating, covering 17 that is disposed about the wire 16. The inner end of the tubular contact member is desirably flared so as to constitute a shoulder that engages the inner end of the coded spr ng 18, the outer end of this coiled spring being engaged with the shoulder 13,
the spring being held under compression be tween this shoulder 13 and the inner end of the tubular contact member whereby the spring is enabled to exert inwardly thrusting pressure upon said contact member.
The extent to which the coiled spring 18 may inwardly thrust the tubular contact member .when the contact carrier 7 is removed, may be limited by the shoulder 19 formed upon the outer end of this contact member. g
In the embodiment of the invention shown the coiled spring 18 surrounds both 'the sleeve 12 and the tubular contact member 15, the contact member 15 being in sliding engagement with and within the sleeve.
