IMPROVEMENT IN CHIMNEY-CAPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 153,530, dated July 28, 1874; application filed June 6, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID BOYD, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Chimney Caps and Ventilators, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to chimney caps and ventilators for increasing the draft in carrying off smoke and foul air, excluding water, and arresting the discharge of the water or fluid of condensation.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of a chimney-cap constructed ac cording to my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of the same, taken on the line a: 00.
which surrounds this connection, forming a sort of cup to catch the condensed gases which run down upon the flue, and discolor and stain whatever they touch. The liquid which adheres to the inside surface of the enlarged portion B, runs down and passes through the opening G into the cups D, and is carried off; also any water which may run down on the outside will be caught and carried off in the same manner. E is a collar on the top of B. F G is the usual guard, supported by staysH; and-J the cap, supported by stays I.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination, with pipe B, bent and slotted at the lower end, of the smaller pipe A. passing up within pipe B, and provided with cup D, arranged as and for the purpose specified.
