Description

E. ZINNER FLYTRAP Filed Nov. 18. 1924 characters Patented Apr, 14, 1925.
PATENT GFFICE.
EDITH ZINNER, OF IVIILES CITY, MONTANA.
FLYTRAP.
Application led November 18, 1924. Serial No. 750,610.
T all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, EDITH ZINNER, a citizen of the United Sta-tes, residing at Miles City, in the county of Custer and State of li/fontana, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Flytraps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to traps, and has more specific 'reference to a recept-acle employed for the trapping of flies, the primary object of the invention being to provide an article of this character that is so constructed as to permit sheets of fly papel' to be associated therewith, whereby, after flies pass into the receptacle, the same are caught by the papers.
An additional object is to provide a fly trap wherein the sheets of paper may be readily associated with or removed from the receptacle proper.
An additional and important object is to provide an article for the catching of flies, that may be manufactured and marketed at a relatively small cost, and wherein the same will have an attractive appearance, in order that it may be positioned upon a stand, support, or other appropriate place, within the room.
vWith the foregoing and other objects in view, as the nature of the invention will be better understood, the same comprises the novel form, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing, and claimed.
In the drawing, wherein like reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the views:
Figure l is alongitudinal sectional view of my improved fly trap, and
Figure 2 is a detail vert-ical sectional view thereof, one of the combined closure. and ily `paper strip holding doors being shown in an open cond-ition.
Now, having particular reference to' the drawing, my novel fly trap constitutes the provision of a receptacle 5, which is preferably glass, and being in cross section, of substantially inverted cuneated form, the side and top walls thereof being rounded, as clearly shown in Figure 2.
The lower edges of the side and end walls extend inwardly and then upwardly, for providing a channel 6, around the fly inlet opening 7, whereby a solution, preferably of sugar and water or other iy attracting composition may be disposed therein. The opposite side walls of the receptacle are formed with relatively enlarged inlet open ings 8, which are adapted to be closed by arcuate shaped sheet metal doors 9-9 that are hinged, at their lower edge, to the respective receptacle side walls, as indicated at l0-10.
Adapted to be disposed upon the inner sides of the doors 9 9 are sheets of liy paper ll-ll of such dimensions, as to have the edges thereof overlie the eges of the openings 8 8 in the receptacle, when the doors 9 9 are closed, as clearly shown in both of the views. The sticky substance upon the sheets of paper will catch the flies when they move upwardly from the solution within the channel and after the sheets have been employed for a certain length of time, they may be readily removed by swinging the dors 9--9 to the open position, shown in Figure 2.
The receptacle is preferably formed from a molding operation, and the same -is equipped with a supporting leg 12, for raising the same slightly above t-he article upon which .it is supported.
I do not wish to be limited to the specific showing and description, insoxnuch as in the future practice of the invention, modifications may be made, without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invent-ion, wh at I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In a iiy trap of the character described, a receptacle formed with an inlet opening in its bottom wall, and discharge openings in its side walls, strips of fly paper adapted to be disposed over the openings in the side walls, and combined closing doors and fly paper :strip holders hingedly secured to the receptacle adjacent said side wall openings.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
EDITH ZINNER.
