To all whom it may concern:

Be it-known that I, RUDOLPH Z. BADER, of Papillion, in the county of Sarpy and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and Improved Dust-Oatcher for Thrashing-Machines, of which the following is a specification:

The object of my invention is to furnish a dust-catching attachment to the various thrashing-machines in use, by which the dust at the feed-entrance -of the cylinder is taken up and carried to the rear part of the thrasher, for the purpose of protecting the person attending to the feeding against the deleterious effects of the dust produced by the cylinder.

My invention consists of side tubes or channels, which pass at both sides of the thrasher to the fan-openin gs, and. are tightly attached thereto. A laterally-connectin g tube or channel passes in front of the cylinder, and is connected with a detachable centerpiece having a series of perforations at the bottom and side facing the cylinder, for the purpose of drawing in the dust produced by the feeding operation and the cylinder, and conducting the same, by the suction of the fans through the side tube, to the rear part of the thrasher.

A in the drawing represents the mouths of the side tubes or channels B, which are made of suitable size and material, and applied to the various thrashers in such a manner that a communication of the cylinder at the front part of the machine is formed with the side openings of the fans. The, months or lower end of the tubes fit tightly to the side openings, through which the air enters to the fans. Tubes B are laterally connected by a tube, 0, the elbows being curved or angular, as found most advantageous, and provided in front of the cylinder with a detachable part, D, which is applied, by hooks or other suitable means, so that it may easily be taken off for cleaning or repairing the cylinder, and be then replacedfor use. central part D has, in longitudinal direction, a vertical partition, D, which divides it into two separate chambers. The bottom part of the chambers is made of sheet-iron or other suitable material, each chamber being provided with a series of perforations, a, of which those nearest to the cylinder serve to take up the dust thrown up by the working of the same, while the second series of holes forward toward the person feeding draws in' the dust occasioned by that operation. A series of small holes, I), is arranged at the upper part of the side facing the cylinder, for the purpose of gathering the dust which is thrown up by the cylinder and not entirely collected by the lower holes. The suction of the air which compels the dust particles to enter into the catcher is obtained by the working of the fans, which draw the dust down through the sidetubes and discharge the same at the rear end of the machine. The dust-catcher may be applied with small changes to any of the thrashing-machines in use, as they have the same general arrangement of cylinder and fan.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The dust-conveying attachment for thrashing-machines, consisting of the side flues B B, transverse short tubes 0 G, and the central detachable flue D, having a partition, D, and openings 0. in the bottom, and a series of openings, 1), in the side wall facing the cylinder, as and for the purpose herein set forth.
