`A general object of the invention is to provide a simple and practical tool which meets all requirements of use and which is susceptible of being operated ina safe andA expeditious manner with a minimum amount of labor. vThe relining of railroad tracks frequently vpresents difficulties to be overcome to eifect a proper seating or footing principallyon account `of lthe, kind and amount of ballast involved and of obstructions such as water-pans, guard-rails, etc. Therefore, the present 'invention aims to provide a track lining device which may he successfully positioned and operated, although the positioning isrconfronted with the objectionable conditionsabove'enumer ated. s v
lAnother object of the invention resides in the provision ofV a rail bearing lever having a shiftable fulcrum and adapted to` be positioned directly belowfthe rail so as to permit thefrail bearing lever to be yshifted from lone fulcrum point to another in succession as they rail is shifted, and without appreciablylifting said rail.

In its general organizationl the present track hnmgfdevice includes a base A havwing a? suitable forwardly-located anchcring element B, a rail bearing or `shifting lever C,

Referring to thedetails of construction of "the form illustrated in Figures l to 4L, in-
clusive, the base A consists of a relatively flat body 5 preferably formed on its underside vwith marginalv and transverse strength` ening ribs 6 and 7 respectively. This hase may be made of either malleable iron or pressed` steel-and is formed at its inner end with a depending self embedding anchoring means B which in this instance is in the form off a claw of spade-like form having a "penetrating point 8 which assists the device in seeking its own einbedment in theballast.
The base'is provided adjacent its inner end, and in this instance adjacent'the claw vB, with a plurality of bearing seats for the rail bearing lever C, these seats being formed in a longitudinal series. In order to permit the device to be readily inserted under a rail, although the track may be fairly filled with ballast, and vyet permit of ythe successive functioning ofthe rail bearing lever, I have provided the hearing seats in a plane belowthe base.
In the form illustrated in Figures 1 to 4, said bearing seats are located in a depressed portion of the base.` The base formed with an opening Qpreferably located cen-l trally between its side edges and the base on opposite sides of the opening9 is depressed to form bearing lugs lO-l0, each lug being formedwith a set of the transversely disd posed bearing` seats 11, 12 and 13, respectiifely, which open upwardly.
