Be it known that I, ADoLPH BRINKMAN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, inthe county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Iceless Refrigerators; and I do hereby. declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip tion thereof.
This invention pertains to refrigerators, and more particularly to that type employing a circulation of cold water to serve as the cooling element.
The primary object of the invention resides in the provision of a cooling chamber, having disposed therein, a water circulating coil and surrounded by an air space serving as an insulation.
A more specific object is to provide means, whereby the insulated cooling chamber is ventilated to reduce the sweating of the cooling coil to a minimum.
With the above and other objects in view,
- the invention consists in what is herein shown and described and more particularly pointed out and defined by the appended claims, it being borne in mind that various modifications of the structural details are contemplated as Within the terms of the appended claim.

Referringnow more particularly to the accompanying drawings, the numeral 1 designates an outer casing mounted upon castors in order to obtain portability, the casing being provided at its front with a door 2,. Supported within the casing and spaced from the walls thereof, is a cooling chamber3, provided with a plurality of partitions comprising spaced plates 1. As illustrated in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings, the partitions are spaced from th s side walls for 1922. Serial No. 563,828.
the purpose which will be later explained. The cooling chamber 3 is provided adjacent its top and bottom with a pair of vent openings 5, which openings project thru the outer casing 1, and permit a circulation of air thru the cooling chamber.
As shown in Figure 3, it will be noted that the plates 4 serve to divide the cooling cham her into a plurality of compartments, each compartment being provided with an individual door 6 to permit access thereto, without exposing the entire cooling chamber to the outside air. Surrounding the walls of the cooling chamber and extendingbetween the division plates 4, is a water circulating coil 7, provided with an inlet 8 which can be connected to the city service, or any suitable supply of water, and an outlet 9 which communicates with the water reservoir 10, secured on the outer casing 1. Both the inlet 8 and the outlet pipe 9 pass thru the upper cooling chamber vent 5, thus eliminating the necessity of extra fittings and couplings.
The reservoir 10 is provided with an overflow pipe 11, and a service faucet 12, which faucet permits water to be drawn out for any desired uses.
It has been found, in devices of this character, that one of the great objections resides in the great amount of moisture created in the cooling compartment, due to the sweating of the cooling coil. The present invention is designed to take advantage of this particular action, caused by the cold water passing thru the tube, by the provision of the vents and the spacing of the partitions from the side walls of the cooling chamber, whereby a steady circulation of air through the cooling chamber is produced, and as the same comes in contact with the moisture formed on the cooling coil, the moisture is evaporated, thus reducing the temperature of the air passing thru. Further, should an excess of moisture form on the coils, the same is permitted to drain down to the bottom of the cooling chamber and pass out of the lower vent 5 into the pan 12, positioned below the outer casing 1.
In order to take care of the moisture forming on the outlet pipe 9, a funnel 13' is secured to the outer casing directly be ow the pi e 13 door 2 is opened. This is accomplished by the switch 14, carried by the front wall of the cooling chamber 3. The switch 14 is provided with a spring plunger 15 which normally engages the contacts 16, thereby closing the lamp circuit 17, current being supplied by the battery 18 secured to the rear of the outer casing 1, or from any other suitable supply. Positioned within each compartment is a lamp 19 which'is connected in multiple in the circuit 17. When the door 2 is in its closed position, the plunger 15 is held out of engagement with the contact 16, thereby breaking the circuit 17 and it is observed that as the door 2 is opened, the spring plunger will engage the contacts, thus illuminating the different compartments.
From the foregoing it will be seen that an efficient arrangement has been provided, wherein the cooling element is supplied by the ordinary city water service at a very low maintenance :cost.

A refrigerator comprising an outer cas plurality of compartments, said partition consisting of a pair of spaced plates adapted to receive a portion of said coil, said chamber having its side walls lined by a plurality of regularly spaced pipes forming a portion of said cooling. coil doors communicating with each of said compartments, a door for closing the outer casing, and screening within said vents, the lowermost of such vents serving also as a discharge for moisture collecting upon the surface of said coils.
