Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB KRAM, OF GERMANTOWN, PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLOTHES-FRAMES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 153,088, dated July 14, 1874; application filed March 30,1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, JACOB KRAM, of Germantown, Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State ot' Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Frames, and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, in which is shown a side elevation of my invention.
My invention has for its object to provide a cheap, simple, and durable extension clothesframe. The nature ot' my invention consists in the peculiar construction and combination of parts, as hereinafter fully set forth.
Referring to the accompanying` drawing, A is a central post, to which are jointed the folding arms B B. O O are rods, jointed on the extremity of the arms B B, in such manner that they will always remain parallel with the central post A. These rods O O may be made each in one piece, of the requisite length; or they may be made in sections, the lower end ofthe upper section, c, terminating at the lowest arm B; the other section, c', jointed at that point, and extending downwardly as far as the lower extremity of' the central post A. The ends of the arms B, where jointed to the central post A, nt in a recess, a, in such manner that, when said arms are extended horizontally or at right angles to the central post, they will impinge upon the shoulders al al. Then said arms B are folded, they rest in beveled recesses a2 in the sides of the post A, side by side with the rods O,'the lower sections of which, when said rods are formed in sections, are folded up, and held in position by means ofa button, D, the screw ot' which is located a little out of the center, so that when said button is turned one way Ait Will allow the lower sections to swing upon their joints, but will lock said sections when turned the other way. E represents a short pivoted arm, jointed to the center-post A, near the top of the latter, and designed to prevent the contact ot' the body or arms of the frame with an adjacent wall when but three of its sides are opened.
Among the many advantages of the foregoing,` construction may be mentioned the following: The arms B B, in opening, move from a vert-ical position downwardly to a horizontal position; and hence, when opened, require no supporting or oblique braces.
Having fully described my invention, I Claim- The pivoted posts O and pivoted folding arms B, in combination with the post A, havin g the beveled recesses a2, notches a, and shoulders a", substantially as shown and described.
In testimouy that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 28th day of March, 1874.
JACOB KRAM.
