LUOINDA HATTES, OF MARSEILLES, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN MEDICAL COMPOUNDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 153,080, dated July 14,
April 18, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LUOINDA HATTES, of Marseilles, in the county of La Salle and State of Illinois, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Medicines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
This invention has relation to a new and improved medical compound for the cure of cholera, cholera lnorbus, cholera infantum, diarrhea, and bloody flux; and it consists in the combination of the following medical substances in about the proportions hereinafter specified.
I put two ounces of peppermint in one and a half pint of boiling water; one and a half ounce of kino in a half-pint of boiling water; one ounce of rhubarb in a half-pint of boiling water. When the solutions are cooled they are separately filtered, mixed together, and one and a half pint of alcohol is added. Then dissolve one ounce of opium in half a pint of water, and add one half-pint of alcohol; also, dissolve one half pint of camphor in a vessel containing a half-pint of water and a half-pint of alcohol. I then put all of the above solu- 1874; application filed tions in one vessel, and add one and ahalf pint of the best brandy, and also a half-ounce of carbonate of soda. I then filter, and after the solution stands one week it is ready for use.
The quantity of the above solution is six and one-half pints, containing one ounce of opium, which gives about four grains of opium of two witnesses.
