Be it known that I, ALEX E. LOOKI-IOLDER, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Oak Park, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have. invented a new and useful Improvement in Combined Liquid Filling and Dispensing Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
The main objects of this invention are to provide an improved combined filling and dispensing attachment foruse with liquid containers Where the liquid is to be dispensed by means of air. pressure; to provide improved fastening means whereby the at tachment may be secured to various kinds of containers; to provide an improved con struction and arrangement of a. receptacle and the air pressure within the container;
to provide improved meanson the inner end of said dispensing conduit adaptedto accommodate said attachment to containers of varying depth; and to provide an attachment of this kind in the form of a simple and. comparatively IHQXPQDSIVG unitary structure which can be quickly fastened to, or removed from, any form of liquid con tainer.
An illustrative embodiment of this invention is shown in the accompanying drawings in which v I Figure 1 is a plan of a combined filling and dispensing attachment constructed in accordance with this invention.

A filling and dispensing attachment embodying this invention comprises a casing constructed for use as a sort of funnehso that upon its being attached to a container,
it may be used as a means of refilling the container, and also by. virtue of the disthe means provided for attaching the air JQIISIIIO conduit arran ed thereon the attachment serves to permit the dispensing oi liquid from the container under air pressure. Theattachment is equipped with meanswhich permit suitable gauges to be secured thereto for measuring the air. pressure and liquid within the container to which the attachment is secured.
In the specific embodiment herein shown,

construction, and which to not cquippedwith a threaded opening. The flange and ring 7 are provided with holes 8 and 9, respectively, through which suitable bolts may be inserted.
A drip basin 10 in the form of a. cup is set into the filling opening 2, the upper part of said basin and easing surrounding said open- 'ng 2, having coacting threads 11, by means of which said drip basin 10 may be screwed into the casing to provide an air-tight fit. Receptacle support in the form of a spider 12 is set into the top of the drip basin 10,
the periphery of the spider and the basin being provided with interfitting shoulders 13, (see Fig. 1), which secure the spider supportagainst shifting in the basin. A drain 14 is formed in the rear bottom part of the basin 10 and closed by a. plug 15 carried by a stem 16 extending out through the top ofthe basin above the receptacle support 12. This stem has threaded engagement with the basin, as indicated at 1-7, and is providedwith a winged nut head 18, so that by turning the stem 16 the plug 15 can be removed from or replaced in the drain 14 without removing the receptacle support 12. The plug 15 is provided with a gasket 19, which affords an. air tight closure for the drain 14 when the stem portion 17 is screwed home. Slugs 20 are formed on the top of the basin 10 at diametrically opposite points, so as to be engaged either by a spanner wrench or a rod placed across the basin between said lugs to permit the basin to be turned either for screwing it firmly into place at the filling opening 2 or removing it therefrom.
A dispensing conduit 21 is secured to the casing 1 at the rear thereof eccentrically of the outlet 3, but with theaXis thereof disposed in the same vertical plane with the axis of said outlet 3. "The upper end of this corduit terminates into a faucet 22 the disduit is provided with a telescoping strainer attachment Ql (see Fig. 4), which permitsv the dispensing conduit 21 to be accommodated to containers of varying depths.

Inasmuch as this attachment is intended particularly for use where the liquid is to be discharged by means of'air pressure, a valve-controlled air inlet 26 is secured to the top of the casing 1 between the conduit 21 and the filling opening 2. This inlet is pref-Y erably of the conventional form of air control inlet used on pneumatic tires. It is provided with a relief outlet 27located inwardly thereof and controlled by a pet cock 28, which when necessary, permits oft a quick partial or complete reduction of the pressure within the container. A pipe 29 vided with threaded nipples 33, (see Fig.
5), to which these gauges may be readily attached. These gauges may be of any of the usual constructions used for this purpose.
The attachment herein shown and described is used in substantially the following manner 7 As already explained, the attachment is secured to a liquid container either by screwing the threaded nipple 6 into a threaded opening in the container, or by bolting the attachment to the container by the use of bolts extending through holes 8 in the flange 5, and engaging similar holes 9 in the split ring 7, which is previously inserted into the container through the opening. By means ofa suit-able air pump attached to the valve 26, a desirable amount of pressure is built up in the container. When the liquid is to be dispensed the receptacle is placed upon the spider 12 and the faucet'22 opened to permit the flow of liquid into said receptacle in the desired quantity. Any liquid that may be splitduring the filling of the receptacle, or that may drip from the faucet is caught by the drip basin 10. When a substantial amount of liquid is accumulated in the drip basin 10, the plug 15 may be withdrawn so as to permit such liquid to drain back into the container. Before opening the plug 15, the pet cock 28 is opened to dissipate the air pressure which is resupplied through inlet 26 when the plug is again replaced in the drain 1 1.
This attachment may be used for refilling the container by simply removing the drip basin 1-0, which allows the liquid to be poured in through the opening 2 and flow through the outlet 3 When this is done, it is advisable to open into the container.

Although but one specific embodiment of u this invention has been. herein shown and described, it will be understood that numerous details of the construction shown may be altered or omitted without departing from the spirit of this invention as defined by the following claims.

A combined filling and dispensing attachment of the class described in the form of a unitary structure, comprsing a casing having a filling opening in the top forward part and having an outlet at the bottom rear part, means contiguous to said outlet for securing the attachment to a liquid contamer, a drip basin removably secured 111 said opening, an airtight joint between sa d" drip basin and said filling opening, are-ceptacle support arranged 011 said drip basin, a dispensing conduit secured at the rear of said casing and terminating at its upper end in a faucet disposed above said filling open 7 mg, and a valve-controlled air inlet through securing the attachment to a liquid con tamer, a drlp basm removably secured in said open ng with an air-tight joint, said drip basin having adrain in the rear bottom part thereof and having the bottom of said basin inclined toward said drain, a receptacle support arranged on said drip basin, a dispensing conduit secured at the rear of said cas ng and terminating at its upper end in a faucet disposed above said filling opening, a plug for saiddrip basin drain, a stem 011 said plug extending above said receptacle support to permitrthe removal and replacement of said plug without disturbing said support, and a valvecontrolled air inlet through which air un der pressure may be admitted to the container.
