UNITED STAT-Es GRO'VER B. MELLUS, OF LOS ilrhl'GrEfil]pS,y CALIFORNIA.
SOCK.
Application filed February 11, 1924. Serial No. 692,037.
To all tlf/rom t may @0n-cern.'
Bc. it known that I, Gnovnn B. MnLLUs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Socks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to socks and consists of the novel features herein shown, described and claimed.
,A n object of my invention is to make a sock having a reinforcing line extending from one supporter button or knob downwardly on one side under the bottom of the foot and upwardly on the other side tothe other siubporting button or knob.
Other objects and advantages may appear from the drawings and specification.
Figure. 1 is a perspective showing a sock in position for use and embodying the principles of my invention.
Fig. 2 .is a diametrical sectional detail of the sock shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragnientary sectional detail showing a knob of the sock fabric formin a button.
Fig. l is a fragmentary sectional detail showing a sock with a straight top instead of a roll.
rThe details of the sock shown in the drawings are as follows:
The sock 1 has a roll or reinforced upper edge 2, A. garter P3 lits below the edge 2, a tab -l extends downwardly from the garter El, a wire gripping buttonhole construction 5 extends downwardly from the tab 4, and the button (i .is secured to the fabric of the sock some distance below the garter 3 and in place to be engaged by the bnttonhole 5.
A reinforcement 7 is knit into the sock or otherwise suitably formed and extends from In Fig.p2 I have shown buttons (i and 8 secured to the fabric ofthe sock at the upper ends of the reinforcement 7.
In Fig. 3 I have shown a knob 11 formed by making a knot or lump at the upper end ofthe reinforcement 'l2 and pressing the lump outwardly and stitching the fabric behind the lump to make a permanent protrusion to serve as a button, to be engaged by the buttonholes 5.
In Fig. if I have'shown a sock 13 having astre ight upper edge, while in Figs. 2 and BI have shown the rolls or reinforcements 2.
Thus I have produced a sock having means forming buttons diametrically opposite to each other and near the upper end of the sock, and a reinforcementextending from one button down the side of the sock across the bottom of the foot and upwardly to the other button. y
Various changes may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention as claimed.
I claim:
v l. A sock having means forming buttons diamctrically opposite to each other and near the upper end of the sock, and a reinforcement extending from one button down the side of the sock across the bottom of the foot and upwardly to the other' but-ton.
2. A sock having buttons diametrically arranged opposite each other near the upper end of the sock, and a reinforcement extending downwardly from one button down the side of the sock across the bottom of the foot and upwardly to the other button, said reinforcement being positioned within the fabric of the sock. y
3. A sock having a definite upper edge, an
adjustable garter adapted to tit below the one button down the side of the sock across the bottom of the foot and upwardly to the other button.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
GROVER B.. MELLUS.
