IMPROVEMENT IN GUN-LOCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.
152,990, dated July 14, 1874; application filed March 7, 1874.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES M. GRISHAM, of Towash, in the county of Hill and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Gun-Lock, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a view of the inner side of my improved gun-lock. Fig. 2 is a bottom View of the same, the hammer being shown in section. Fig. 3 is a detail "iew of the outer side of the lower part of the hammer.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
A represents the hammer, which is secured upon the hammer-pin B by a small hand-nut, C, so that it may be readily detached, as required. The hammer-pin B passes through the lock-plate D, and to its inner end is sccnred a wheel or tumbler, E, in the periphery of which is formed a recess to receive the T-eatch F, the shank of which is pivoted in a slot in the periphery of said wheel E. G is the mainspring, the free end of which is notched and made slightly hook-shaped to hook upon the T-catch F. The other end of the spring G is inserted in a hole in the rear end of the lock-plate D, and has a point formed upon it, which projects to serve as a dowel-pin for receiving the rear end of the said lock-plate in place. Upon the lower side of the wheel or tumbler E are formed two notches to receive the engaging end of the sear II, to the middle part of which is attached a screw-pivot, which screws into a screw-hole formed in the plate D. Upon the other or rear end of the sear H is formed an arm, with which the trigger is connected, which trigger is not shown in the drawings. 1 is a spring, the free end of which bears against the sear H, to hold its engaging end against the wheel E, to catch upon the notches of the same and hold the hammer at half-cock and cooked. The other end of the spring I is inserted in a hole in the rear part of the lock-plate D, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The forward end of the lock-plate D has a hole formed in it to receive the screw, by which it is secured in place.
To take the lock to pieces the springs G I are detached, the nut O screwed off, the hammer A and wheel E are detached, and the sear H is screwed off.
To put the lock together the sear H is screwed on, the wheel E and hammer A are attached, the nut G screwed on, and the springs I G attached, the lock being thus taken apart and put together without the use of a screwdriver.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The mainsprin g G, extended through the plate D, and forming, with its rear end, a dowel-pin. therefor, as set forth.
JAMES MADISON GRISHAM.
