Be it known We, Jeers. MARKEL and.
I Emir-To F. citizens of the United States, residing acBuifalo, in the county of Erie end.
:i'lleiv York, have invented i 1 Improvement in Electr1cwhich the following is a Figure 1 is side ole 'aiion of the improved fixture T s e sectional view.
:1 front elevation ihereof.
v of the fixture is in she form of which it, circumscribed by a 2. The iasc 1 may be of any desired outline and 1S 'aglapieblc to ra vlng artistic eii'ects While,
in point of utility. it provides for the attachment of the fixture to the Wall W by any suitable means, as for example an attachment screw 3 passed through an opening in said base and engaging an internally threaded sleeve filled in said Well, the screw 3 having: at its outer end a clamping head 5 whichrngzagcs the outer face of the base 1 and holds the fixture with its flan e 2 Testing against she Wall. Thebase is formed in its lower portion with a forwardly projecting: tubular neck 6 which terminales in an upright casing 7 Within which is mounted the usual. insulating sleeve 8 which encloses the lamp socket and its associnlcd aris, the lamp as S projecting from the sleeve 8 and said sleeve being directly supported upon the bottom of the casing '4' fieptcrnber 132%. Serial No. 737,734.
and being'removable from said casin through an opening 9 in the top of said casing. Below the neck 6 the base is formed with e bo'lsiom 10 which has a central opening'll and adjacent said opening is provided with an internal annular shoulder 12 which directly supports an electric socket 153 of any suitable or usual construction, the socket 13 being confined in position by an overlying bar 17 which by screws 18 passins; through the ends thereof is secured to lugs 19 formed internally of the base. The socket 13 is provided jor co-operation with a plug 14 carried by ihe cord 15 of some electrical household accessory to which curco rent is to be supplied. The arrangement is such that the socket 13 is Wholly enclosed in the base 1 and does not project outward beyond the opening 11. while the bottom 10 by which the socket is supported preferably immediately adjoins the bottom of the casing 7.
The Wires for the lamp 8 and the socket 33 are enclosed within the base and pass through a sleeve 16 fitted in the wallWJhe V5 wires "for the lamp passing -'tl1IOl1, Zll the neck (I which serves for the support of the casing 'lhe casting; 1 serves as the direct support for the sleeve 8 and the parts enclosed thereby and for the socket 18 and in turn 30 is directly sccurcd'to the Wall W "from which it follows ihat the casting ma be made of minimum size and that complete freedom is given as to its design, from an artistic sfandpoint. The fixture is therefore specially adapted for use in bathrooms or lioudoirs where compacfness and artistry of design are required and provides for the use of an electrical household-accessory Without the necessity of removing the lamp 8 in order to make the connection.
Having fully described our invention, we claim:
An electric light fixture comprising an integral casting formed with a hollow Wall engaging base having means of direca attachmentto a supporting Wall, a short tubular neck projecting: forwardly from said base, and an upright lamp casing carried by said neck and having botsom which serves as the direct supgor'c for 'che lamp which said socket i s accessible for the eo'mseeket and. its associate part-s, the base pletion of an electncal connection.
having a bottom below said neck and adja- In testimony whereof We afiix our signa- 10 cent the bottom of the casing, an& a, socket" tures.
wholly enclosed Within said base directly supported on the bottom thereof, the bottom JOSEPH MARKEL. v
I 03E said base having an opening through IRVING P. SMITH.
