Description

Patented Mar. l0, 1925.
' UNITED STATES JOSEPH STRAMETZ, or scRAN'roN, PENNSYLVANIA.
PEN EXTRACTOR.
Application filed. May 31,1924. =`Sera1 No. 717,195.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that L'JosErH STRAMETZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Scranton, in the county of Lackawanna 'and `State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pen Extractors; and I do rhereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an' improved construction of pen extractor, which is adapted to be attached to an over-hanging edge of a table or shelf and to be used to extract or withdraw pens which have been rusted into the pen holders.
An object of the invention is to provide a highly efficient type of pen extractor which may be detachably secured to an overhanging edge of a table or shelf, and will be so constructed that one operating lever will be used to bind the pen point on to the pen support while the other operating lever forcesthe pen holder free from the pen.
A further object of the invention is to provide a highly eliicient pen extractor which will be inexpensive to manufacture and positive in operation.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of my application,
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved pen extractor, and
Figure 2 is a side elevation of my pen extractor.
Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawings to designate corresponding parts.
My pen extractor comprises a substantially U-shape frame 1, which is reinforced by the beads 2 at either edge thereof, and
is adapted to receive the screw operated follower or clamp 3 through its lower portion. A buffer strip or cushion 4 is attached to the undersurface of the upper arm of the frame 1 so that the surface of the 5o table or shelf upon which the pen extractor is clamped, will not be injured.
The frame 1 is provided with an upwardly extending arm 5, which has formed adjacent its upper end, the laterally extending pen support 6. A stub shaft 7 is supported at the extreme outer end of the'arm 5 and has pivoted thereon the lever 8 which has its lower extremity oli' set and formed with acam face as at 49. A coil spring 10 is mounted about the stub shaft 7 and is connected with the lever 8 and tends to hold the same in contact with the laterally extending stop pin 11.-v l
A second stub shaft 12 is supported below the support 6 on the arm' 5 and has mounted thereon the pivoted bell crank lever 13. A coil spring 14 is mounted about the stub shaft 12 and is connected with the arm 5 and lever 13 and tends to normally hold the upper end of the said lever in Acontact with the olf set cam faced portion of the lever 8. j
The mode of operation of my improved pen extractor is as follows.
When itis desired to extract the rusty pen 15 from the pen holder 16, the pen is inserted as shown in Figure 1 of the drawings, beneath the cam face 9 of the lever 8, until the adjacent surface of the pen holder 16 engages the laterally extending end 17 of the bell crank lever 13. The two levers 8 and 13 are then compressed, which will cause the cam surface 9 to securely hold the pen point 15 on the support 6 while the extension 17 forces the pen holder away from the pen. When the pen has been extracted, the levers 8 and 13 will come back to their original position due to the action of the springs 10 and 14.
Many minor changes in detail of construction may be resorted to without departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A pen extractor comprising a U-shape body portion, means for attaching said body portion to a support, an upwardly extending arm formed on said body portion, av
pair of levers pivoted on said extension, a pen support formed on said extension between said levers, one of said levers being adapted to clamp the pen on said support while the other lever forces the pen extractor away from the pen.
2. A pen extractor comprising a U-shape frame, upwardly extending arm formed inf tegrally therewith, means carried by said frame for clamping the same to a support,
and a pair of pivoted arms adapted to operate together to hold apen in fixed position-and to force a pen holder away from said pen. Y
3. A pen extractor. comprising a U-shape frame, upwardly extending arm formed integrally therewith, means carried by said frame for clamping the same to a support, and a pair of pivoted levers adapted t0 operate together to hold a pen in fixed position and to force a pen holder away from said pen and resilient means for holding said levers in operative position.
4. A pen extractor comprising a U-shape frame, upwardly extending arm formed integrally therewith, means Ycarried by said frame for clamping the same to a support,
vand a pair of pivoted levers adapted to operate together to hold a pen in xed posiv tion and to force a pen holder away from said pen, resilient means for holding said levers 1n operative position, and means for limiting the movement of said levers when in operative posit-ion.
Y 5. A pen extractor comprising a U-shape frame, a vertically extending arm formed integrally therewith, means carried by said frame for securin the same to a support, a laterally extending pen support formed integrally with said upwardly extending arm, stub shafts formed on said arm above and below said support, a lever provided with a earn face pivoted to said` upper supportand a bell crank lever pivoted on said lower stud shaft, whereby when said levers are compressed a pen'will be held Vfixed between said pen support andl cam faced lever while the pen holder will be forced free from saidl pen.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
JOSEPH sTRAMETZ.
