Application filed July 15 To all whom it My concern;
. Be it known that I, GUY L. WoonaAnnpa citizen ofthe- United States, residing at San Die 0, in the=county of San Diegoand State of alifornia,hav,e inventeda certain new and useful Paper and Plaster Foundation Supporting Device, of which the. following isaspecification. 7 4
My invention relates toa device for supporting Weather paper and plaster foundations,more particularly for spacing-and sup porting metallic netting from the walls,
sheathing or studding, for exterior plaster foundation and the objects of my invention are: first, to provide a device of this class which will. support paper in position von sheathing and'at the same time provide efficient means for securing hogwire, chicken wire, or other wire'netting or plaster 'foun dation without the addition of other parts; second, to provide a device of this class which will space the plaster foundation from the wall as well as support the same of this class, and sixth, to provide a device thereon; third, to provide a device "of this 25 class which can be sufficiently twisted in various positions after being secured to the wall to facilitate the supporting of the plaster foundation;-fourth, to provide novel means for supportingplast e'r foundation fifth, to provide a novelly constructed device of this class which isvery. simple and eco nomical of construction, durable, easy to install, efficient, and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of'order. I
With these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter my invention consists of certain novel feafaires offconstruction combination, and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference thereon which form a part of this application, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of my device showing the same securing building paper to sheathing and showing a. partof the device turned over to secure the plaster foundation in spaced relation from. the sheathingand showing'said sheathing andpaper in section; Fig. 2 is a front elevational view thereof showing the paper and sheathing fragmentarily; Fig.3 is a fragmentary elevational view of a. wall structure showing the building paper secured to the sheath- ,'192'2. Serial No. 575,399.
ing with my devices, and showing the plaster foundation variously supported thereby; Fig. 4 is a fragmentary side elevational view of a slightly modified form of my device,
and Fig. 5 is'a front elevational view thereof.
Likecharacters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout the several. views of the drawings.
The clip Land the-nail 2 constitute the principal parts and portions of my device for supporting weather paper and plaster foundation in the preferred form.
le 1 preferably slightly shorter than the ot er orouter leg 1?. The shorter leg or leg 1 nearest the wall is adapted to secure The clip 1 is made 'U-shapedwith the one the building paper in position to the sheathing or other wall structure while the leg 1 spaced fromthe former is adapted to secure and space the plaster foundation from said wall structure. The clip is provided with oppositely disposed holes 1 in each ofsaid leg portions and near the connectingand spacing portion 1.adapted to receive therethrough a nail 2 for securing the clip to the sheathing or other wall structure. The outer or longer leg portion 1 is further provided with a narrow slot 1 extending in- Wardly from its end and terminating in a hole 1 at its inner end adapted to receive through saidslot a portionof. the plaster foundation wire by forcing the wire therethrough or slightlyspringing the portion on either side of said slot. When the wire is. forced through the slot into the hol'el it is retained by the hole in said outer or long leg 1 irrespective of the position of the clip onthewall. if Another method for securing the plaster foundation to a wall structure with my device is by bending apart of the outer leg of the clip at its narrow portion over itself and.
over a portion of said plaster foundation as indicated by dotted lines. in Fig. 1 and also shown by the clip D in ,Fig. 3 of the drawlngs. I
In Figure 3 of the drawings I have shown a number of my devices secured to sheath- "mg and posted in various positions about each of the supporting nails to facilitate varying securing of the plaster foundation 7 on the. clip and also by stretching and bending a portion of the plaster foundation slightly.
In Figures land 5 of the drawin s I have shown a slightly modified form 0 my device particularly the construction of the clip which is made/from wire and turned in the form of a coil 8 with its one end forming a shoulder 3* in the form of an outwardly extending flat spiral and the other end extending outwardly'at a right'angle with the axis of the coil in astraight portion 3. in this modified form of construction is secured to the sheathing or other wall structures in the same manner.
Though I have shown and described aparticular construction, combinationand arrangement of parts and portions and certain modification thereof I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement nor to the modification but desire to include in the scope of my invention the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: 1. A device of the class described, includ- The clip 2. A device of the class described, including a substantially U-shaped member, one leg of which is longer than the other and provided with resilient wire securing means, and means for securing said U-shaped member to a walL.
3. A device of the class described, including a substantially U-shaped member, pr0- vided with plaster foundation securing means on one leg and oppositely disposed holes in said legs and a securing means mounted in the oppositely disposed holes in said U-shaped member adapted to secure said member to a wall.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at San Diego, California, this 6th day of July, 1922.
- GUY L. IVOODJARD.
