members 1-6f2t'nd 11s are roviaea withis iiitatl'iiole's' 21 and 2'2, which register with each other when the hinge brace is extended to bracing position, as shown in Figure 5, to receive a pin 23, which may be connected with one of the members 16 or 18 by means of a flexible strap 24 or the like.

The members of each successive pair of uprights 13 on each side of the garage and tent are connected by a spacing member constructed like the hinge braces and arranged to fold downwardly.

Secured to the top members 10 and forming a top for the garage and tent is a flexible cover 25, having grommets 26 adapted to receive suitable buttons or the like 27 projecting from the top members 10.

The flexible cover overhangs the top of the device at the sides as shown in Figures 1 and 5.

A side member 28 is similarly secured to the uprights 13 and front and back members 29 and 30 are similarly secured to the upright members at the back and front of the garage and touring tent.

The front member may be made with two flaps 30 and 30 as shown in Figure 1, if desired, for convenience.

At the bottom of the uprights 13, I preferably secure thereto small angle irons 31 as shown for instance in Figures 2 and 7, having holes 32 in their horizontal flanges to receive iron stakes or the like, whereby the garage and tent may be anchored when desired.

The cover member 25 may be buttoned to the front and rear top members 10 and secured to the intermediate members by means of tie strips 33.

A lean-to may be readily provided for the garage and touring tent by securing screw eyes 34: to the upper ends of the uprights 13 on one side of the device and by providing top members 35 for the lean-to.

Hinged to the top members 35 are upright members 36. The top members 35 and upright members 36 are also connected by hinge braces A similar to those already described.

It will, of course, be understood that the top members 35 may be covered by a sheet of khaki, canvas or the like 37 and that the upright members 36 may have secured .thereto in any suitable way side wall members 38, and that canvas or khaki end members may be provided for the lean-to and buttoned or otherwise secured thereto.

When the garage and touring tent is extended for use, the hinge braces A. are in the position illustrated for instance in Figures 2 and 4, and the device will stand up without difficulty.

The members 16 have their ends bent as at 16 and made of resilient material so as to frictionally engage and hold the members 18 when the hinge braces are extended to their positions as illustrated in Figure 4.

lVhere the device is set up for a short pe riod, the pins 23 need not be used, but in case it is desired to more rigidly support the device, the pins 23 are extended through the holes 21 and 22, and iron stakes are driven through the holes 32.

When it is desired to collapse the clevice, the lean-t0, if used, is moved by releasing the snaps 36. The pins 23 are then removed from the holes which receive them, and the upper hinge braces are folded downwardly and the side hinge braces are also folded downwardly, whereupon the sides may be folded inwardly.

I preferably loosen the side canvas or wall 28 of the side that is folded in first, and throw it folded back from the bottom,

so that it will not be worn or interfered with by the top hinge braces of the opposite side, when the opposite side is folded over.

It will be understood that after the sides have been folded in against the top as illustrated for instance in Figure 5, the whole device may be collapsed from end to end i and wrapped in a canvas or khaki roll or pack.

It can then be loaded on the running board or inside a car and carried in a compact bundle.

The structure of the hinge braces as above described is of considerable importance as contributing to the convenience in collapsing or extending the garage and touring tent.

It will, of course, be understood that some modifications may be made in the structure of the device, and it is my intention to cover by my claims any modified forms of structure or use of mechanical equivalents which may be reasonably included within their scope.

In the longer garages, as many diagonal cross straps 15*, as for instance shown in Figure 2, may be used as may be desired for increasing the rigidity of the structure when it is set up.

It will, of course, be understood that khaki, canvas or any suitable material may be used for the flexible top and sides of the device and that the frame may be made of suitable material, size and shape to meet the taste or purpose of the maker or user.

I claim as my invention:

1. In a device of the class described, a series of transverse top members, upright members hinged respectively thereto, hinge braces pivoted to the top members and to the respective adjacent upright members, hinge spacing members pivoted at their ends to the successive upright members on each side of the device, the members of each hinge brace and each hinge spacing member having coaeting parts for holding them against movement when in extended position, flexible strips connecting the top members, separate covers secured to the top members, the upright members of each'side, and the end upright members at each end, respectively, whereby the sides may be fol-ded inwardly against the top and the device may be collapsed from end to end, upon folding the hinge braces. 2. In a device of the class described, a series of transverse top members, upright members hinged respectively thereto, hinge braces pivoted to the top members and to the respective adjacent upright members, hinge spacing members pivoted at their ends to the successive upright members on each side of the device, the members of each hinge brace and hinge spacing member having coacting parts for holding them against movement when in extended position, flexible strips connecting the top members, flexible strips on each side of the device connecting the upright members, a flexible top cover secured to said topmembers, flexible side walls secured to the uprights on the opposite sides of the device, and flexible end walls, whereby the sides may be folded inwardly against the top and the device may be collapsed from end to end, upon folding the hinge braces.

3. In a device of the class described, a series of transverse top members, upright members hinged respectively thereto, hinge braces pivoted to the top members and to the respective adjacent upright members, hinge spacing members pivoted at their ends to the successive upright members on each side of the device, each hinge brace and hinge spacing member having a channelshaped member and a bar pivoted therein, said channel-shaped member having resilient portions for engaging and locking the parts in extended position, flexible strips connecting the top members, flexible strips on each side of the device connecting the upright members, whereby the sides may be folded inwardly against the top and the device may be collapsed from end to end, upon folding the members.

4. In a device of the class described, a series of horizontally spaced top frame members, flexible strips for limiting the movement of said top members away from each other, upright side frame members pivoted to the ends of the respective top members, flexible strips connecting the side upright members on each side of the device, hinge braces connecting each upright side member with a top member, hinge spacing members connecting the side members successively with each other at each side of the device. 7 V

5. In a device of the class described, a series of horizontally spaced top frame members, flexible strips for limiting the movement of said top members away from each other, upright side frame members pivoted to the ends of the respective top members, flexible strips connecting the side upright members on each side of the device, hinge braces connectingeach upright side member with a top member, hinge spacing members connecting the side members successively with each other at each side of the device, and means for locking the hinge braces and hinge spacing members in extended position.
