C M MURGH Reflectors for Lamps.
WITNESSES MM 1 mm I UNITED STATES PATENT ()rrron.
GHAUNCEY M. MURGH, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN REFLECTORS FOR LAMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 152,76 1, dated July 7, 1874 application filed May 7, 1874. i a
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GHAUNGEY M. MURCH, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reflectors for Lamps, Gas-Burners, and Lanterns, of which the following is a specification: 7
My device consists of a pair of reflectors, pyramidal, conical, parabolic, or other shape, coupled together with elastic hooks, and formed to fit tightly to each other and to the chimney of the burner with which they are used.
The invention is applicable to gas-burners and to-lamps and lanterns of various kinds.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a'front View of a lantern, showing the application of my reflector in truncate pyramidal form. Fig. 2 is a vertical section, showing the lamp in elevation. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the form of reflector shown in Figs. 1 and 2. Fig. 4. is a front view of a lantern, showing the application of the reflector in truncate parabolic form. Fig. 5 is a vertical section of the same on the line X X, Fig. 6.
Fig. 6 is a horizontal section thereof on the line Y Y, Fig. 5. Fig. 7 is a side elevation of the reflector shown in Figs. 4, 5, and 6. Fig.
A B may represent an ordinary coaloil lamp or other burner, and 0 its chimney, and D may represent a lantern of any approved form. E E are two similar reflectors of truncate, pyramidal, parabolic, or conical form, having so much of their vertices removed as to provide room for the neck B and chimney (l, the out being so made as to cause the parts to fit closely to each other and around the chimney in the shape of encircling lips e e,
causing all the lateral, and as much as practicable of the vertical, rays to be reflected ina direct line forward and backward. The two members E and E are coupled together by hooks F engaging in eyes G, and formed with bow f, rendering them elastic, and enabling them to accommodate themselves to expansion and contraction of the chimney under variation in temperature.
I claim as new- 1. The coiled hook F, in combination with the reflectors E E, to hold said reflectors firmly to the lamp-chimney, and to permit its expansion and contraction under'changes of temperature.
2. The combination of the reflectors E E with encircling-lips e c and the elastic hooks F f, substantially as set forth.
CHAUNCEY M. MUROH.
