Description

Feb. 17, 1925,
G. AMoR'os'o HORN Filed Aug. 4, 1922 Patented Feb. 17, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HORN.
Application filed August 4, 1922. Serial No. 579,676.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GIUsEPPE AMoRoso, a subject of the King of Italy, and a resident of San Francisco, county of San Francisco, and State of California, have invented a new and useful Horn, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in horns adapted to be used in connection with phonographs, radio receiving sets, or the like and its particular object is to provide a horn that is made of wood exclusively without having any metallic parts for the purpose of producing a better quality of tone.
The preferred form of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 represents a longitudinal section through my horn. Figure 2 an end view of the same and Figure 3 a top plan view of it at a reduced scale. )Vhile I have shown only the preferred form of the invention it should be understood that various changes or modifications may be made within the scope of the claim hereto attached without departing from the spirit of the invention.
My horn (1) comprises a box like structure (2) flaring outwardly at one end and terminating at the other end in a tubular member disposed at right angles to the general outlines of the box. The latter is made of strips (4) of wood, preferably of bamboo, all of which are arranged to run substantially in the same direction, that is in the general longitudinal direction of the box. The latter is of rectangular cross section throughout with the top (6) and the sides (7) flaring outwardly at one end. The bottom member (8) is substantially flat at that end but is curved upwardly at the other end as shown at (9) to terminate, with the sides and the top in a channel (11) arranged transversely to the general direction of the box and adapted to communicate with the 4 preferably tubular member (3). For strengthening the general structure I provide preferably two girders (13 and 14) around the box, each girder consisting of lateral members (16) joined to a top mem- 0 her (17) by beveled joints (18) and connected at the bottom by a horizontal member (19). The lateral members extend below the horizontal member (19) to form short legs (21) on which the whole device rests.
I claim- A horn of the character described comprising a single layer of lengthwise arranged narrow bamboo strips of uniform width cut and joined to present a hollow body of gradually increasing rectangular cross-section and transverse girders surrounding an intermediate portion of the body for holding the strips in place, the 6 girders being arranged relative to the body to allow extensions of the same to function as legs for the horn.
GIUSEPPE AMOROSO.
