nomnorn'rnrc snnn'r nnrnn'rony.,
Application nieu July 13, 1922. serial No. 574,'644.
ATo all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, ENRIQU JIMNEZ NUNnz, a citizen of Costa Rica, residing at Guadalupe, Provincia de San Jose, Costa Rica, Central America, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Homeopathic Sheet Repertories, of which the followingv is a specification.
This invention relates .to the art of practicing medicine, and the primary object of the invention is to provide means for aiding in the selection of remedies for the proper treatment of diseases of the body.
A treatise by. Allan Boenninghausen has been placed upon the market in book form, giving lists of different medicines for the treatment of diseases, the medicines for the treatment of each symptom of a disease being written. indifferent characters to show the relative value of each medicine for the treatment of each symptom of a disease.
While this treatise is an aid to practicing homeopathic physicians, the time required to look up the necessary remedies for the Vsymptoms of different diseases has prohibited the general adoption of the book by the `homeopathic profession.
Therefore, another object of thel invention is to provide a repertory so formed and arranged as to permit the easy and rapid scrutiny of all known remedies of different symptoms of different diseases so as to effectively aid a physician in the correct selection of medicines for the treatment of the disease er diseases disclosed by his diagnosis of the patient.
A further object. ofthe invention is the provision of a card system for aiding in the selectionmi remedies for the treatment of diEerent diseases embodying a plurality of cards, each card representing a symptom of a disease, and divided into a plurality of independent spaces or blocks consecutively munbered, each number representing a certain medicine known in the art, the medicine or medicines which act for remedies for the symptoms bein marked on the v tinctive manner, such as by perforating the said spaces or squares, so that to see the medicines necessary to the treatment ofA certain symptoms of a disease, it is merely necessary to select the desired card and see which spaces are perforated. As certain medicine may have greater values for treating the symptoms of the disease Athan others, the spaces perforated are marked with different colors, each color representing the valuation of the medicine, for the treatment of the symptom.
A further object of the invention is to provide a novel means for arranging the cards in numerical order, so that the same can be readily selected, a novel means for arranging all of the names of the medicines in a-book, and a number written beside the same corresponding tothe numbers placed in the spaces or squares on the cards.
A further object of the invention is to provide novel means for quickly determining the medicine or medicines necessary for a-patient having a number of different symptoms, it merely being necessary to select the cards bearing the symptoms and disposing the cards in superposed relation, and the perforated spaces which align indicating the medicine or medicines to be prescribed.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement andvformat-ion of parts, as will be hereinafter more specifically described,
claimed and illustrated in the accompanyingy dra-wings, forming a part of this specification, in which drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a number of the cards which have been selected as a result of a diagnosis of a case.
Figure 2 is a plan view showing thecards disposed in superposed relation to permit the finding of the necessary medicine or medicines for the treatment of the patient.
Figure 3 is a plan view of one of the sheets or cards.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary elevation of' one leaf of la book which can be used as an aid in the selection of the cards or sheets.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary .elevation of another' leaf of the book or sheet showing the method of arranging the names of the medi- The repertory A includes a plurality of sheets or cards of substantially the Vsame size and configuration. Each one of these sheets represents a dierent symptom of a different disease., rIhe upper portion of each card or sheet is preferably provided with transverse lines 11 upon which the symptom indicated by the reference charac- Vnumbers as indicated b ter 12 is adapted to be written or printed. These cards or sheets 10 are preferably numbered consecutively, and the card at each upper corner thereof is provided with a number indicated by the reference character 13.
Now, the main body portion of each card is divided by longitudinal and transverse lines 14e and 15 into a plurality of equal spaces or blocks 16.
These blocks or spaces 16 are formed to represent all of the known remedies for treating various symptoms, and each block has a number indicated by the reference character 17 printed or written. therein to indicate a certain medicine. These numbers 17 correspond to the numbers 18 written infront of the names of the medicine indicated by the referencecharacter 19 on the leaves or sheets C, and thus it can be seen that to find the name of a medicine indicated by a.
certain number, for example the number 327, it is merely necessary to look on the leaf bearing the number 327 and the name Plantago will be found, thus indicating that that is the medicine represented by the number 327. i
Now, it is also preferred to have the numbers of the cards 10 arranged in consecutive order on the sheets or leaves B as indicated by the reference character 20 and the names of the symptoms represented by said' numbers are printed or written opposite to said acter 21 and clearly s own in Figure 1 of the drawings and thus when it is desired to find the num er of a certain card representing a certain symptom after the diagnosis of a case, it is merel necessary to look on the leaves B to fin the required number, thus, say the physician desired to find the card representing constipation. on account of hard faeces, it would be merely necessary to look on the leaves B and find the number of the card 492, after which'he could withdraw the card from the pack of cards.
Now, the medicines which would act for a remedy as the symptoms listed on the cards or sheets 10 arestruck out as indicated by the reference character 21. Thus, each sheet will have a number of perforations therein. i It is evident that somemedicines are better than others for treating the s mptom indicated on the card, and in or er to show the physician which are the best remedies, the blocks which are perforated are marked in a distinctive manner. Thus, the medicines which are considered best for treating the symptoms shown are colored black, as
the reference charv indicated by the reference character 22. The medicines` considered next best are colored red, as indicated by the reference character 23. The medicines considered next best are colored blue, as indicated by the reference character 24. The medicines considered next best are left blank or white, while the medicines which are considered still' less valuable are colored green as indicated byt the reference character 25. Thus, the physician prescribing the medicine for the patient would select the medicine indiced by the black or red colorations prefera Now, in use, the card sheets 10 constituting the repertory are arranged in numerical order and can be arranged in groups running from 1 to 200, from 200 to 400, and so on, so that` individual cards can be readily selected therefrom, and these' cards or sheets can be kept in a case if so desired.
Tit has been found by actual experience, that the number of different symptoms will run up in the thousands, and thus there will be several thousand of the cards 10.
lt has also been found that the known remedies for treating diseases, as used in the homeopathic profession are approximately 425 in number and thus the cards are divided into 425 spaces and numbered accordingly,
but it is to be understood that as other medicines become known, other spaces or squares are made or added to the cards or sheets l0.
After a physician has found all of the symptoms of a patient, hecan look on the leaves or sheets B and find the numbers of the cards or sheets 10 representing said symptoms-and then select the cards and arrange the same in superposed relation as shown in Figure 2 ofthe drawings. Now, perforations of the cards which align indicate t-he remedies which can be used for all of the symptoms, and thus which is the Amedicine which would be selected, and if two or three perforations align, the medicine having the `highest relative value for treating the symptoms would' be selected. This selection of course, would go by the colors on the perforated squares or spaces.
For example, suppose a case with the following symptoms, selected from a great number in order to show the superior advantage of the colored sheet repertory A: Great llO 985-1975 and 2028, and the corresponding sheets are selected and superposed.
This superposition gives two remedies, as is indicated in Figure 2 of the drawings,
'represented by numbers 113, and 336, which respectively designate china and pulsatilla. In order to make a choice between these two remedies, the colors in the sheets are examined, and it will be found that china is marked two times in med, second class remedies, ten times in blue, third class remedies, and three times without color, fourth class remedies, while pulsatilla is marked live times in black, rst, class remedies, seven times in red, two times in blue, and one time without color. In conse quence, pulsatilla would be selected. While the perforations or openings in the symptoms sheets adord a convenient -means of determining the medicines which would be used for a diagnosis of several symptoms, yet other like expediente may be employed y in lieu of openings, such as the provision of transparent or translucent lenses or the like.
From the foregoing description, it can be seen that a novel means has been provided for facilitating homeopathic physicians in their selection of medicines vfor treating different diseases.
Changes in details may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of this invention; but,
I claim: i
