J. P. 'LANGENBACKER FLAGMANS EQUIPMENT KIT Filed March 31 ATTORNEY WITNESS:

UN Di J 9. 1.1?- AUL .LALTG N Kmt ,Q MIEE BD UTA FLAGMANS' nop rmvrnn'r KIT.
Application filed March 31, 1924. 'Serial No. 703,299.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN PAUL L.-\N(}EN HACKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milford, in the county of Beaver and State of Utah, have invented new and useful lii lpi'ovements in Flagmens Equipment Kits, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to kits for use by railroad men and has for its object the provision of a novel and compact kit for carrying a plurality of fusees, a signal flag and track torpedoes, the kit being equipped with suitable straps for facilitating carrying.
An important and more specific object is the provision of a kit which includes two compartments, one of which is for containing the usual signal flag and which also serves as means for supporting track torpedoes which are held thereon by the usual clips with which they are provided.
An additional object is the provision of a device of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in manufacture, easy and convenient to use, positive and eflicient in service and a general improvement in the art.
lVith the above and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illus: trated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the device,
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section,
Figure 3 is a cross section.
Referring more particularly to the draw-- ings I have shown the device as comprising a casing designated broadly by the numeral 10 and including two sections 11 and 12, the former of which is rectangular in shape and elongated in cross section, and the latter of which is cylindrical. In actual practice these two sections may be formed integrally, the division, point being formed simply by pressing the opposite sides inwardly. The section 12 is of considerably greater length than the section 11 and is adapted to have disposed therein the usual signal flag A used by trainmen. This section 12 serves as supporting means upon which may be carried quite a large number of track torpedoes B, the clips C thereof being engaged upon the section 12.
Secured within the bottom of the section 11 is a base member 13 of wood and extending across the top is a partition 14; formed with a plurality of holes 15 through which are inserted a plurality of fusees D of the ordinary and well known type. These fusees areprovided with spikes E which are penetratingly engaged in the wooden block or base 13 so that they will not accidentally drop out.
Secured to the casing in any desired manner, such as by means of rings 16 is a carrying strap 17 which may be engaged over the shoulder or which may be simply carried in the hand so that the device may be readily carried about.
From the foregoing description and a study of the drawings it will be apparent that I have thus provided a signal equipment kit which keeps the various articles in convenient position ready for use at a moinents notice. It has been found that this device operates to prevent waste of materials and facilitates the giving of signals.
\Vhile I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention it is of course to be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, construction and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or scope of the subjoined claims.
I claim:
1. A device of the character described comprising an upright cylindrical casing adapted to contain a flag in furled condition, said casing being adapted to support track torpedoes by having the clips thereof frictionally engaged upon the casing, an upright substantially rectangular casing securedto one side of the cylindrical casing, and means in the second named casing for supporting fusees in upright position.
2. A device of the character described comprising an upright cylindrical casing adapted to contain a flag in furled condi tion, said casing being adapted to support track torpedoes by having the clips thereof frictionally engaged upon the casing,.an upright substantially rectangular casing secured to one side of the cylindrical casing, and means in the second named casing for supporting fusees in upright position, said means including a partition within the upper portion formed with holes through which the fusees are inserted.
3. A device of the character described comprising a casing including two sections and equipped with carrying means, one sec tion being rectangular in shape and elongated in cross section and adapted to contain fusees and the other section being cylindrical in cross section and adapted to contain a signal flag, the first named section being provided in its bottom With a Wooden base and having its upper portion provided with a transverse partition having holes therein through which fusees extend, the
spikes ordinarily at the ends of fusees being penetratingly engaged Within the Wooden base.
In testimony Whereot I afliX iny signature.
JOHN PAUL LANGENBAOKER.
