Be it known that 1. Furs-:it C. Passie, a citizen et the United States, residing at Latham. in the count)v otl Logan and State et Illinois. have invented a new and usetul Operating ilechanisni for Switches, .oit which the following is a specilication.
This invention relates to pressure controlled switches. and aims to provide novel means tor automatically completing a circuit to a motor and simultaneouslyY throwing in a clutch mechanism.
Another object ot the invention is to provide a device ot this character which will automatically break the circuit to the motor at a predetermined period.

Referring to the drawings in detail. the reference character designates an electric motor which is in circuit withea lsuitable source ot electric supplv. through the wires 6. 7 and 3. a manuall7 controlled switch member 9 being interposed in the circuit tor completing the circuit through the wire 6.
A power shaft 10 has connection with the motor shaft 11 as through the coupling 12.r there being provided a Clutch member 13 secured on one end of the shatt 10. which clutch member cooperates withV the clutch member 111 Jfor connecting the shafts 10 and housing 53. The switch mechanism comprises a housing indicated generally bv the reference character 1T. which housing embodies a section 1S and a section 19. between which sections thc. diaphragm is positioned. The section 19 is formed with a cut out portion to receive the head 21 'termed at one end of the rod which rod extends through an opening in the section 19 and has its outer end contacting with the pivoted bar 23, pivotallv supported on the section 19 as bv means of the pivot pin 211 mounted between the arms 25.
The bar 23 has an enlargement 26 formed adjacent to one end thereof. which enlargement accommodates the cup 2T that forms a seat tor the. coiled spring 28. The opposite end ot the coiled spring 2S is received in the cup 29 supported b v the section 13, there being provided a threaded bolt 30 passing 'through a suitable opening` termed in the section 13. to contact with the cup 29. Due to the bolt 30. it is obvious that the tension o1 the coiled spring 2S maj,7 be regulated to cause the bar 23 to operate under various degrees ot pressure.
The bar 23 is formed with an opening to accommodate the bolt 31 that has one end positioned in a. suitable threaded opening in the section 19. whereb'v the outer end of the bar 23 mayY be held against lateral movement with respect to the section 19 to insure a true operation of the bar.
Pivotallv connected to the bar 23 as at 32, is an arm 33 that carries a roller 3-1- at the outer or tree end thereof. the arm moving over the inclined surface 35 ot the head 36 formed in the clutch bar 37.
This clutch bar 37 is shown as pivotally supported bv the section 18 as at 38 to permit oi, a tree. pivotal movement of the bar 37 with respect to the bodv portion ot the device.
A threaded rod 39 is supported bv the section 13 and passes through a suitable opening in the bar 37, whe obv the har 37 is held against lateral movement.
Carried by the bar 37 at a point adjacent to the head 3S is an insulating block 10 that carries a switch plate 41 that is in circuit with the wire 8 forming the ground circuit. A similar insulating block L12 is mounted on the section 18 and carries a switch arm 43 www..
constituting the stationary element of the switch, the arm 43 being curved to lie in the path of travel of the switch plate 41, when the bar 37 moves towards the body portion 17.
Av coiled spring 44 has connection with the arm 33 and has one end anchored to the section 18, so that the arm 33 is normally held under tension, to the end that the roller 34 is forced against the inclined surface 35.
In order that the bar 37 will be retarded in its movement in one direction, a coiled spring 45 is interposed between the clutch bar 37 and insulating block 42, so that when the clutch bar moves inwardly, such movement is made against the tension of the spring 45.
The clutch'bar 37 is formed with an oii'- set portion 46 that has its outer end forked as at 47 to move in the groove 48 forming a part of the clutch member 14 so that movement of the clutch bar 37 results in a relaV tive movement of the clutch member 14, to throw the same into and out of operation.
As shown, the section 13 ist formed with a cut out portion 49 providing a compartment for the reception of water which is forced through the pipe 50, when the tank not shown, and which is in communication with the pipe 50, is being filled with water. Then the water within the compartment 49 reaches a predetermined degree of pressure, it is obvious that the diaphragm will move laterally, causing the head 21 to move the rod 22 outwardly forcing the arm 33 laterally, moving the roller 34 over the cam snrface 35 allowing spring 44 to move arm 33 inwardly camming clutch bar 37 iny direction of the arrow as shown by Figure 3 of the drawings, to the endthatthe circuit to the motor is broken, cutting off the motor and simultaneously moving 'the clutch members out of engagement.-
As the water pressure within the compartment 49 is reduced, the spring 28 will overcome the tension of the spring 44 forcing the arm 33 towards the clutch bar 37 and moving the roller 34 over the cam surface 35, to

The spring member 45 moves the clutch member 41 again contacts with the switch .the shaft 10 and housing 53.

Having thus described' the invention, what is claimed Vas new is:-
In a device of the character described, a propelling shaft, a propelled shaft associated with the propelling shaft, a clutch for clutching the shafts together, an operating means including a diaphragm housing, a diaphragm in the housing' partitioning the housing into lateral compartments, a pipe extending into the housing and adapted to feed fiuid to one side of the diaphragm, a rod extending into the housing and carri'- ing a head engaging one side of 'thediaphragm, an arm pivotally supported on the housing and adapted to be enga-ged by the rod to move the arm in one direction, a pivoted bar on the arm, a coiled spring having connection with the bar for normally urging the bar towards the housing, a relatively large coiledspring engaging the arm and adapted to normally urge one end of the arm away from the housing and overcome the tension of the first mentioned spring', and means operated by the movement ofthe arm for moving the clutch to its active position.
