Description
Feb.l0,1925.
I J. BATL LE KEY RING,
Filed Ma a. 1925 A TORNE Patented Feb. 10, 1925.
llNlTED STATES JOHN IBA'ILLE, O3? DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
KEY RING.
Application filed. May 21,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN BATLLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of lVayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Key Ring, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a key ring and has for its object the provision of a key ring which will be simple in structure, economical of manufacture and highly efficient in use.
Another object of the invention is the provision of means for attaching the key ring to the belt of the user and having means for attaching a plate thereto.
Another object of the invention is the pro vision of a key ring supporter having a match scratcher attached thereto.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed. 7
The invention will be best understood from a reference to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification and in which,
Fig. 1 is a front elevational View of the invention attached to the belt of a user,
Fig. 2 is aside elevational view of the invention,
Fig. 3 is a rear elevational View of the invention,
Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of a modified form of the invention,
Fig. 5 is a sectional view of the invention taken on substantially line 5 5 of Fig. 4:, and,
Fig. 6 is a plan view of the blank from which the holder is made.
The invention in its preferred form comprises a key ring formed so as to present two or more rings 16 and 17 which mally held in close relation and which may be sprung apart to allow the passage of a key between them. The end of one of these members has an angularly turned portion 18 which is welded or soldered or otherwise suitably attached to a reduced portion 15 of a supporting member. This supporting member is made from a single blank shown in Fig. 6 and has its main body portion doubled upon itself to form the straight porplate, such as blank the utility 1923. Serial No. 640,307.
tion 9 and the portion 10 inclined thereto, provided with an outwardly turned end 11 and laterally extending lugs 12 and 13. The end 11 is provided with an opening 14 through which may be projected a rivet for fastening to the portion 11 any suitable a drivers license plate, or similar article 20. The lugs 12 and 13 and the material separating them are knurled or otherwise roughened to form a surface for scratching matches on. By passing the belt 19 between the members 9 and 10 the key ring is held in an easily accessible place and the user has a convenient surface for scratching matches on, as well as a convenient place to carry a drivers license plate. By forming the supporting member from a single of the device is enhanced, as the match scratching surface will not become detached as would be the case with a separate piece of material fastened there to.
In the form shown in Figs. 4c and 5, the lower end of the portion 15 is curled to form a knuckle 21. The end of one of the rings 16 or 17 is provided with an angularly turned portion 22 from which projects another angularly turned portion 23, the end of which is again turned at right angles to the main body. The portion 23 rests in the knuckle 21 and may be free to swivel therein or may be a pressed fit. The rest of the device is as described for the preferred form.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is set out in the accompanying claims, and I do not wish to limit myself to such structure as shown but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the claims.
What I claim is:
1. A key ring supporter struck from a single blank comprising a shank having a tapered end, the opposite end being doubled upon the main body thereof, said tapered end projecting beyond the end of said doubled over portion; and lugs projecting outwardly from the opposite sides of said doubled over portion adjacent the end thereof.
2. As an article of manufacture, a supporting member struck from a single blank and having one end tapered, the opposite end being doubled upon the main body portion of said shank, said tapered end projecting beyond the end of said doubled over i portion; lugs projecting outwardly from said doubled over portion, at opposite sides thereof, adjacent one end, said lugs and the portion of said shank lying thei'ebetwcen be ing roughened on the outer surface; and a key ring mounted on said tapered end for 10 depending therefrom.
In testimony whereof I have signed the foregoing specification.
JOHN BATLLE,
