Application fiIedApriI 14, 1924. Serial No. 706,459.
To all whom it vii/(1 canoe/m: 1
Be it known that}, luv C. limivoiinn, a citizen of the United fitates, residing at the city and county of lillkhart, State of In diana, have invented certain new and useful linprovements inwlv alve Mechanisms, of which the followingis a specification.
This inventionrelates to improvements in valve mechanisms. 1 i i The main object of this invention is to provide an improved i'nechanism for operating flushing valves for water closet tanks and the like which is siinple inits parts, the 1 parts easily assembled upon a tank, undone which is notlikely to get out of repair.
Objects pertaining to details and economies ofconstruction and operation will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplishth'e objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the cl aims.
A structure which is a preferred embodi ment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, in which: 7
Fig. l is a fragmentary perspective View of a closet tank with my improved valve mechanism mounted thereon.
Illig. H is an inside view partially sectioned on a line corresponding to line 2-2 of Fig. ill, the valve lever being shown at one end of its stroke by full lines and at the other end by dotted lines.
Fig. III is a detail view partially in horizonal section.
Fig. IV is a fragmentary inside view corresponding to Fig. 11, of a slightly modified form of my invention in which the handle may be completely rotated.
In the drawing similar reference numerals indicate similar parts in all of the views.
Referring to the drawing, 1 represents a tank which has an opening 2 therein to receive the non-circular projection 3 of the bracket plate 4. This bracket plate is provided with an inwardly offset arm 5 having a downwardly facing slot 6 therein in which the lever 7 is supported by means of the pivot 8. The pivot is preferably arranged through the arm from the inner side thereof and is provided with a finger piece 9. The bracket plate is secured by the tubular clamping member 10 which constitutes a bearing for the spindle 11. This clamping memberlO is provided with a head 12 at its inner end, preferably non-circular, and is threaded to receive the clamping nut 13 which is a finishing nut, the wrench in assembling being applied to the non-circular head 12 of the sleeve so that the finishing member or nut 13 is not marred.
The spindle 11 is provided with a crank arm 1 1 having a pin 15 engaging the longitudinal slot 16 in the lever 7. The top wall of the slot 6 constitutes steps 17 limiting the movement of the lever 7, see Fig. II.
In the embodiment shown in Fig. IV the structure illustrated is the same as that shown in FigsI, II andHLwith the exception that the slot '18 of Fig. IV is of such depth asto allow a complete rotation of the handle 19. y
In the embodiment shown in Fig'sII and III the lever engages the stops 17 when the handle 19 is swung to position shown by dotted lines in Fig. II. This slight modification adapts the structure for either co-mplete rotation or partial rotation of the ban die, one type being preferred in some instances and the other in other instances.
With the parts thus formed and arranged they are very economical to produce, and may be quickly assembled upon a tank, the lever constituting a means for preventing longitudinal movement of the spindle so that the parts may be readily disassembled should occasion require.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A valve mechanism for tanks coniprising a bracket plate having an extension adapted to be inserted in an opening in tank from the inside thereof and an inwardly offset arm having a downwardly facing slot at its outer end, a clamping sleeve disposed through said bracket plate and having a head engaging the inner side thereof, a clamping nut threaded upon the outer end of said sleeve whereby said sleeve and bracket are secured in position, a spindle arranged through said sleeve and having a crank arm provided with a pinat its inner end and a handle at its outer end, and a lever pivoted in said slot in said arm to project at the side of said crank arm whereby the spindle is supported longitudinally, said lever having a longitudinal slot therein engaged by said pin on Cir wardly offset arm having a slot at its outer end, a clamping sleeve disposed through said bracket plate and having a head engaging the inner side thereof, a clamping nut threaded upon the outer end of said sleeve whereby said sleeve and bracket are secured in position, a spindle arranged through said sleeve and having a crank arm provided with a pin at its inner end and a handle at its outer end, and a lever pivoted in said slot in said arm to project at the side o t said crank arm whereby the spindle is supported longitudinally, said lever having a longitudinal slot therein engaged by said pin on said crank arm.
A valve mechanism tor tanks comprising a bracket plate having an inwardly olfset arm with a downwardly "Facing slot at its outer end, a clamping sleeve disposed through said bracket plate and having a head engaging the inner side thereof, a clamping nut threaded upon the outer end of said sleeve, a spindle arranged through said sleeve and having a crank arm provided with a pin at its inner end and a handle at its outer end, and a lever pivoted in said slot in said arm to project at the side of said crank arm whereby the spindle is supported longitudinally, said lever having a longitudinal slot therein engaged by a pin on said crank arm, the top wall of the slot in said bracket arm constituting stops limiting the swing of said lever.
Jr. A valve mechanism for tanks comprising a bracket plate having an inwardly otl set arm with a slot at its outer end, a clamping sleeve disposed through said bracket plate and having a head engaging the inner side thereof, a clamping nut threaded upon the outer end of said sleeve, a spindle arranged through said sleeve and having a crank arm provided with a pin at its inner end and a handle at its outer end, and a lever pivoted in said slot in said arm to project at, the side of said crank arm whereby the spindle is supported longitudinally, said lever having a longitudinal slot therein engaged by a pin on said crank arm.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
