Be it known that I, FREDERICK A. ZIELKE,

a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Merry- GoRounds; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip tioir thereof.

The means for rotating the spindle may comprise a cord 18 which has one of its ends passed through a hole 19 in the spindle 4 and secured in any desired manner. The cord is initially wound, as shown in the drawings, and is left in this position with its free end 20 extending outwardly a sutfic-ient distance to allow it to be freely grasped by the operator.

The operation of the device is as follows: The operator grasps the free end 20 of the cord and pulls it outwardly, thereby unwinding the cord from the spindle and causing the spindle to rapidly rotate. This causes the seats 10 to swing outwardly like the seats in a circle swing, for instance. After the cord has been unwound it is relieved of tension and the momentum of the parts causes it to rewind upon the spindle in the reverse direction.

It will be understood, therefore, that an extremely simple means has been provided whereby a miniature merry-go-round may be freely and easily operated by an unskilled person so as to cause repeated rotations of the merry-go-round, first in one direction and then in the other.

It will further be seen that an attractive toy of simple and sturdy. construction has been provided, and that such toy may be readily dismantled by withdrawing the spindle from the support and may, therefore, be packed in a small space, greatly facilitating handling and shipping. The corners of the base 1 may, as shown in Figure 1, be marked with the numerals 1, 2, 3 and 4. By numbering the corners, as indicated, the toy may be utilized as a game; that is, When the reel is spun in either direction, parties may pick out a horse, or a chair, and the figure which stops over the highest number would thus win.

I claim A toy merry-go-round comprising a base, a U-shaped support having outwardly turned. feet secured to said base and having an apertured upper transverse portion, a verti cal spindle revolubly socketed in said base and extending through the aperture in said transverse portion and projecting thereabove, a rod extending transversely through the upper portion of said spindle and pro-' jeoting outwardly therefrom, swinging seats suspended from the outer portlons of said rod, and a 0 0rd secured to'the lower portion of said spindle between said base and the transverse p being adap spindle and the momentum of said parts will cause the rewinding of said cord.
