Description

Breach-Loading 4Fire-Arms.
N0.l52,452 Patentedune30,l874.
WITNESSES ATTUBNEYS.'
UNITED STATES PATENT IEIcE.
ISRAEL G. BEAUMONT, OF GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN BREECH-LOADING FIRE-ARMS.
Specification forming part of' Letters Patent No. 152,452, dated June 30, 1874; application filed May 23, 1874.
To all uhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IsRAEL G. BEAUMONT, ot' Green Bay, in the county ot' Brown and State of Wisconsin, have'invented anew and Improved Breech-Loading Fire-Arm, of which the following' is a specification:
My invention relates to means for fastening and untastenin g a barrel pivoted to the stock so as to swing the barrel up for putting the cartridge in and it consists in a catch-bolt and trigger connected with the spring triggerguard, with a notched stud over the barrel, and so arranged that when the catch-bolt goes forward to en gage the notched stud for fastening the barrel it will drop into a notch and be locked, so that it cannot escape and release the barrel except by the trigger, which is arranged for pulling it out ofthe notch and also pulling it back to free the lug when it is desired to free the barrel.
Figure 2 is a sectional elevation, showing the barrel tilted up for loading. Fig. 3 is a detail, showing the catch-bolt in plan View.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The barrel A is pivoted to the stock at B, to be tilted up, as in Fig. 2, for loading it at the breech. It has a notched lug, C, which drops into a notch, D, ofthe breech, for being fastened by the catch-bolt E, which engages the notch F. This catch-bolt is jointed at G to the spring trigger-guard H, for moving it forward into notch F. It is also jointed to a trigger, I, at its rear end, for pulling it back out of the notch F, also out ot the lockingnotch K in the breech, into which it falls when it goes forward, so that its shoulder L locks with the end M of the notch. The trigger I lifts it out of the notch by its heel N turning against the breech and throwing the bar down. The same movement also throws the point of the bolt behind the shoulder P, whereby it is held back against the action otl the spring-guard, so as not to interfere with the return of the lug with the barrel, and also so that when the lug` goes back the shoulder O will push the catch down out of the notch and let it go forward into the notch ot' the lug C. The catch-bar E has a long slot in it, and a stud-screw, R, is arranged in it and screwed into the breech to .keep the catch-bar in place, and also to serve as a fulcrum for it to swing on for throwing the point up into notch K.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patenti l. The catch-bolt E and triggerI connected to the spring triggerfguard H, in combination with the notched lug C ot' the barrel, substantially as speciiied.
2. The notch or recess K, in combination with the catch-bar E, havin g the shoulder L, substantially as specified.
3. The stud-pin R, iu combination with the locking-bolt E, trigger I, and spring-guard H, g
substantially as specified.
