This invention relates to a novel coin`- bination fancet and drinking fountain cup which is adapted for household land other rises Where a constant use of a faucet is Vrequired and Where it is convenient vand desirable to coinbine in a single structure a s`o7 called drinking or bubbling fountain and valve, the Water supply of "which is received trein the saine connection tothe Water pipe.
Among' the objects of the invention is to provide in a combination of ythis character a very simple, readily inade and attractive structure Which serves -the donble purpose of an ordinary faucet and `drinking fountain. y
A further object of the invention is to provide ina combination of this character a fitting which is connected to the supply source, and or a shape Lto lreceive' the vallved faucet portion and the il'rfinking fountain portion, the t'ting in this instance'being a T-iitting, the niaii'i or body portion of which constitutes a through condtiit for the faucet, and lthe upsta-nding portin et which constitutes a conduit fdr the lbfnbblingv fornita-in.

Other objects of' the invention are' "td further inipr'ove and simplify structures ot' this character, and the invention consists in the vcoin-biiiation and arrangement of the elements shown in the drawings `and defl scribed `in the specification., and is. pointed @at `in the appended' @lai-ais.

As shown in lsaid draiifiiigs, 1Q designates the dutlet pipe troni the Water system, Which entends through lthe 'ivall 11 and, in theconstruction shown, is common to both the faucet and drinking fountain. 12 designates a Teiitting or Aconnection comprising a horizontal portion 13 and a. vertical or rising port-ion 14. Said horizontal portion of the Ttitting is connected at one end by a threaded joint to the utlet 10, and is vconnected at its other end, as by a screw thread, to a draw-oit spout 15 and valve chamber 16 in which is located al valve for controlling the faucet that is acttitted in a familiar inanner by a 'stein 17 provided with a. hand piece 18.
19 designates an upstanding shell that is `provided at its lower end With a reduced, externally threaded `part 20 which enters the vert-ical branch 14 of the T-fitting and is threaded thereto in the manner' shown in Figre 2. Said shell 19 formed with an interior valve chainber 21, connected with the 'bed'y portion :er the Putting by a short passa-ge or conduit Said conduit 22 terminates in a seat flange 23 surrounding a. port 23.
24 designates a valve which engages a seat on the'saidrlange 23 to close the Water passage or conduit to the shell 19. In the present instance the valve has the forni of ai ball which" is pressed to its/seat by a stein 25. Said stein, as shown, has a rather 'course pitch thread 26 to engage Aau internal threaded passage disposed ar'iallv of thefshellland in linel with lthe port 23 sui-rounded by 'the seat Bange. The sain stein is formed at `its lov'ver end to provide a downwardly opening concave bearing end or cup `27 of internal shape to fit the perimeter ot tliefball valve.

herein shown, the stufhng box comprises a gland nut 28 which has a. cylindric skirt portion 29 that fits closely within the cylindric upper end 30 of the shell 19. Said skirt portion is adapted to bear at its lower end against a packing washer 31, which surrounds the stem 25 and is compressed between said lower end of the skirt portion and a shoulder 32 formed between the smaller screw-threaded portion of the shell 19 and the interiorly cylindric portion thereabove to receive said skirt portion of the nut. The nut is provided exterior to said skirt portion with an annular interiorly threaded flange 33, which is sepa.- rated therefrom by an annular space 34 to receive an exteriorly screw-threaded, reduced, upstanding terminal 35 of the shell. With this construction, it will be observed that the threaded connection of the nut with the shell acts through the skirt portion 29 to bring pressure on the washer 31 to force it closely against the stem which extends therethrough to produce a water tight joint.
The said valve stem is principally hollow. It is open at its upper end 36 and communicates at its lower end through cross openings 37 with the valve chamber 21.
38 designates a hollow arm which is fitted, as by an elbow 39, to the terminal 36 of the tubular valve stem, and 40 designates an upl wardly opening cup which is supported on the outer end of said tubular arm 38 and into which the water is discharged for drinking purposes. The said hollow arm 38 is fixedly connected to the upper terminal 3G of the valve stem, and thereby constitutes means whereby the valve stem can be turned on its axis, the threaded connection of said stem with the shell moving the same axially during such turning movement of the cup supporting arm. When the arm 38 is turned to the position shown in Figure 1, the stem 25 it lifted by said screw-threaded connection, thus permitting the Water pressure beneath the ball valve to lift the valve away from its seat, as indicated in Figure 1, and at this time there is a free passage for the flow of water upwardly through the verticalY arm 14 of the T, into the valve chamber, through the cross passages or ports 37, and thence through the bores of the stem 36 and arm 38 to the cup. Y
.As herein shown, and preferably, the said controlling valve for the drinking fountain is adapted to be opened at a time when the arm 38 is turned outwardly in a position directly over the valve chamber and spout of the faucet proper, and is adapted to be closed when the arm 38`and the cup 40 is turned 90 degrees toward wall 11, as indicated in Figure 2, the hand of the screw threads being adapted for this purpose.
Preferably, and as shown, the said yarm 38 and its cup are adapted to be automatically swung into position for closing the drinking fountain controlling valve so as to thereby avoid unnecessary waste of water by carelessly allowing said parts to remain in position to permit water to flow therethrough. Such automatic closing of the drinking fountain valve and swinging of the arm 38 and cu 40 out of operating position can be eectcd by a torsional spiral spring 41, which surrounds the valve stem within an annular space therebetween and the skirt portion 29 to the nut or gland 28. One end of said spring is fixed to the upper end of the valve stem, and the other end thereof is fixed or anchored in any suitable manner to a fixed part of the structure, as the gland nut. With this construction, therefore, when the drinking fountain is swung outwardly in operative osition, or over the faucet spout, it places tiie torsional spring 4l under tension and thereby stores power in said spring to automatically return the parts.
The pressure of the water beneath the ball valve 24 acts to lift said valve when the stem is moved upwardly in turning it in a direction to axially lift it, so as to permit free flow of water outwardly through the hollow stem and the arm or neck 38 to the cup. The passage of the water past the ball valve has the effect to shift the valve relatively to its seat so that when the valve stem is lowered and the valve is pressed on its seat, it will engage the seat and the cup portion 27 of the stem, and thus avoid continual wear on the ball valve at certain definite areas. Frein what has been said, it is obvious that the combined structure of the faucet and drinking fountain can be made up by a few readily machined parts. The individual parts are easily constructed and may be readily assembled and the combined structure, when installed,` produces a very attractive device. For the purpose of compactness, it is preferable to curve downwardly the tubular arm 38 in the general form of a goose neck.
lt will be understood that the structural details are capable of some variations within thc spirit and scope of the claims hereto appended, and that the invention is not limited to the particular details illustrated, except as hereinafter specifically claimed and as imposed by the prior art.
I claim as my invention.
1. In a combined faucet and drinkingr fountain a tubular T-sha-ped fitting adapted for communication with a water supply and with a valved spout, the intermediate portion of the T extending upwardly, a shell supported thereby and communicating with the interior of the T, said shell being provided with an interior port, a valve to control the port, a hollow valve controlling stein threaded to the shell, and a hollow arm fixed to the upper end of the stem and coni- Inunicating therewith and carrying at its outer end a drinking cup,

In a combined faucet and drinking fountain, a tubular T-fitting whose main body is adapted to communicate with a water inlet and with a valved draw-olif spout, a valve casing connected to the vertcal branch of said litting and provided with a port, a valve controlling said port, a stein threaded in the shell of said casing for movement towards and from the port to actuate said valve, said valve stein being hollow, and a hollow arin connected to the hollow valve Stein and carrying at its other end a drinking cup, said drinking fountain valve being opened and closed by angular movement of said arm to turn the valve stern.
3. In a combined faucet and drinking fountain, a tubular T-tting whose main body is adapted for connection at one end with a water inlet and at its other end with a valved spout, said fountain comprising a Conduit which is supported on and extends upwardly from the vertical branch of said fitting, a water controlling valve in said conduit and ahollow stein communicating F1 JOHN H. G. LUTZ.
