SAND-GREEN SCRAPER FOR GOLF LINKS.

Be it known that I, JUDsoN R. BRADY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Arkansas City, in the county of Cowley and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sand Green Scrapers for Golf Links.
The object of this invention is to provide a scraper or device of novel construction for rendering smooth and level that part of the green which a ball is to traverse when traveling from the putter to the hole. Ordinarily a scraper of large size is left on the ground near a green which is used when necessary to render the green smooth, but this implement is quite bulky and is often in the way of the golfer when approaching the green. Furthermore, it often happens that when arriving at a green, no scraper is at hand, being lost, strayed or stolen.
According to my invention, I have so constructed the scraper that one may be carried by each golfer and may be readily attached to his club or quickly removed therefrom. The scraper is provided with means for attaching it to the golf bag to be carried thereby when the scraper is not in use.

Figure 3 indicates how the scraper may be attached to the head of a golf club such as a putter.

In carrying out my invention, the scraper blade A may be. made of wood or other suitable material and it is provided with a clip B by means of which it may be attached to a golf bag. The blade is also pro- "vided with a clip C by means of which it may be readily attached to the head of a golf club or detached therefrom. Preferably the clip is adapted to engage the head D of a putter and the clip comprises two jaws E and F, one of which F has a base member f formed with holes to receive Serial No. 740,788.
screws or other fastening devices f where by this jaw may be permanently attached to the blade. This jaw is formed on its upper edge with flange f having a downturned edge to provide a socket for the upper portion of the club head. The other jaw E comprises a base 6 formed with holes a to receive screws or other fastening de vices and at its lower edge it is formed with an outwardly extending flange 6 adapted to engage the lower portion of the club head. The two jaws are connected and held apart by a connecting member which provides a hinge or bendable part whereby the jaws may be opened and closed.
Preferably the clip is made of spring steel and may be formed from a single blank. The connecting members is preferably of the shape shown, there being a slot 9 formed between the upper jaw and the connecting member whereby the jaws may be easily opened and closed. The upper jaw member is permanently attached to the blade by the securing devices 7. The lower jaw member is not at first attached to the blade, but the clip is first adjusted to the club head in the manner indicated. To attach the scraper to a golf club, the head of the club is first made to enter the socket in the jaw member F, then the head of the club may be tilted until it engages and lies above the flange e of the lower jaw member. The member E is then made to fit closely the head of the club and then the screws or other fastening devices which pass through the holes 0 are made to enter the blade and rigidly attach the lower jaw member to the blade. After that, no adjustment of the clip is required.
Referring to Figure 3 it will be observed that the two members of the jaws are permanently attached to the blade and the head of the club is engaged by the clip. In this condition, the scraper may be used in the manner indicated in Figure 1.
The shape of the clip is such that the head of the club cannot be withdrawn endwise from the clip, but by tilting the club head so as to withdraw its lower edge from the flange 6 the upper edge of the head may be withdrawn from the socket of the jaw F and the club readily detached.
The clip is so arranged that when attached to the club head the shaft of the club is disposed centrally of the scraper.
Experience has demonstrated that there is no danger .ot the clnb, being separated from the scraper when used in the manner 1n;- dicated in Figure 1, but by giving the prop er twist to the club, may be d e: tached from the blade" arid the scraper may be connected with a golf and carried. thereby in the manner indicated in Figure 2.
