UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMESSTONE, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN EGG-HATCHING APPARATUS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 152,430, dated June 23, 1871]; application tiled September 10, 1872.
To all whom fit may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES STONE, of London, England, h ave invented a certain new or Improved Incubator or Apparatus for Hatching Eggs, of which the following is a specification:
This invention is au incubator of simple construction, consisting mainly ot a hotwater vessel having proper inlet and outlet pipes, an egg-tray located above the hot-water vessel, and an intermediate regulating-valve.
The incubator, which is illustrated on the accompanying drawings, consists mainly ot' two boxes, l 2, placed one within the other,
so as to leave a clear space of about an inch or so at every part between them, which is` filled with any suitable non-conductor ot' heat, 3. The lower part of thc'inner box 2 contains a metal vessel, 4, (a space of about an inch or so being leftbetween them, and filled in with the non-conducting material 3,) which is filled with hot water or other suitable heated liquid once in, say, every twelve hours, and above which is placed a tray, 5, to contain the eggs for incubation. The heat is graduated, and air admitted thereto, as required, by means of a perforated lid capable ot' adjustment over a grating or perforations at the top of the outer box. A similar arrangement is also provided between the vessel 4 and the tray 5. It consists of two thin perforated pieces ot wood, G
7, one sliding over the other, and actuated by means ot a thumb or milled-head screw, 8, passing through one side of the boxes. The liquid is admitted to and drawn from the vessel by pipes, cocks, or taps 10 11, suitablyT arranged for such purposes.
By the employment of hot water, which is introduced through the inlet l0, and Withdrawn, as itsvtemperature becomes reduced, through the outlet ll, the requisite heat is admitted to the eggs in the tray above, the intermediate valve being' employed to determine the amount received.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is- In an incubator of substantially the described construction, the combination of the hot-water vessel 4, having the inlet and outlet pipes, as described, andthe tray 5, with the intermediate valve 6, asset forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my naine to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
