Description

G. D. NOTTINGHAM CONTAINERFORDRESSING Fi led April 12 1923 Patented Jan. 27, 1925 UNITED STATES GUY DAVID NOTTINGHAM, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
CONTAINER FOR DRESSING.
Application filed April 12, 1923. Serial No. 631,574.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUY DAVID No'rrING- HAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore State of Maryland, have in- 5 vented certaln new and useful Improvements in Containers for Dressings, of which the following is a specification. i
This invention relates to containers for dressings provided with means for improving the appearances of worn or soiled'sur- '20 to provide a means for raising the nap of the cloth or leather of shoe which have become glazed by wear, before the application of the dressing to the shoe and to provide a means for conveniently spreading the dressing and rubbing it into the surface of the shoe after the dressing has been applied thereto.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing wherein I have illustrated a specific embodiment of my invention.
Fig. 1 is a vertical section through my shoe dressing container, showingthe cover fitted on the container. Figs. 2, 3 and 4 are, respectively, side, perspective and top plan views of the cover for my container.
The container consists of a tubular bod or barrel (1) containing the dressing 2 and provided with a removable cover 3 fitted thereto. This dressing (.2) as illustrated in Fig. 1 is preferably in the form of sticks, blocks or cakes. The tubular bod (1) and cover (3) are preferably of woo The top end of the cover (3) is surfaced with a suitable abrasive material 4), and
I prefer to use for this purpose a ayer of sand paper, emery paper or emery cloth adhesively secured to the top. A dauber or felt pad (5), preferably of wool, is secured to the opposite end of the cover, and extends into the tubular body when the cover (3) is fitted to the body (1).
In using my device, the dressing (2), which I prefer to use in the form of a stick, is rubbed on the surface to be treated and the dauber (5) is then applied over this surface in order to properly spread the dressing over and rub in into the surface.
If certain parts of the shoe have become glazed, before applying the dressing (2) upon the shoe, the nap of the leather or fabric is first restored by rubbing the abrasive (4) upon such portions, and the dressing (2) is then applied and afterwards spread and rubbed into the surface by means of the dauber (5).
The present invention is not limited to the specific details set forth in the foregoing examples which should be construed as illustrative and not by way of limitation, and in view of the numerous modifications which may be effected therein without departing from the spirit and scope of thisinvention, it is desired that only such limitations be imposed as are indicated in the appended clalm. Y
I claim as my invention:
An article of manufacture comprising a tubular, wooden barrel for holding a stick of shoe dressing, a wooden cover having a portion of reduced section fitting into said barrel and a head portion-for limiting the movement of the cover into said barrel, said head portion being provided with an abrasive for raising a nap upon the surface to be dressed before application of the dressing to said surface and a felt pad attached to the end of the reduced portion of said cover for spreading the dressing upon and rubbing it into said surface.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
GUY DAVID NOTTINGHAM.
